Help! 996 v 997 GT3 Harness Issue
Discussion
Hi,
I need some help please.
I have just bought some Schroth harnesses off eBay that have come out of a 997 GT3.
I bought them as they were advertised as suitable for a 996 GT3.
On inspection, however, the Sub Strap fitment for the 997 and the 996 appear very different.
These 997 sub strap comes with 2 eyelets that look like they get bolted directly to a sub bar or the seat mounts.
The 996 sub straps pictured on the Schroth website clearly show they come with clips to attach the strap to the optional sub bar that you fit under the seat.
My question is, is it going to be possible for me to fit these 997 harnesses to my 996 GT3, and if so, how?
I can probably buy new sub straps from Schroth with the 996 fitment, but I'd rather not have to if at all possible.
Thanks in advance.
Jack

Hi Jack, apologies if this is not answering your original question. I have a pair of almost new (lightly used) red harnesses for a 996 GT3 or GT3 RS with valid FIA rating. I was going to sell in the spring. If you get no joy with modifying your 997 set then drop me a PM. You could always resell the 997 set.
I may be wrong but....the belts are the same for 996/997. The only difference is the way they mount to the crotch straps under the seat. 997 bolts to the floor using the eyelets and a set of washers and spacers that leave the belts able to move. 996 wraps around the anti-sub bar on the seat base, both use the same wrap technique of the webbing.
So, if you have the 997 version just remove the wrap bracket om the end of the crotch straps and wrap the belts around the sub bar instead.
There's a good install PDF on their website

But the 996 ones look like they have a clip to clip onto the sub bar, not actually wrap around the sub bar.
I think they do wrap around the sub bar which was only fitted on the CS nomex recaros.. don't think the sub bars came on the leather recaro options with the comfort..?don't recall the clip thing jack?
I`ve been through this... I bought 997 fitment having been told that they also fit 996, but found out that the 996 ones are different.
I resold the 997 ones (at a small profit) as I thought that these are safety devices and not just a `look` thing. I wanted the proper ones as I carry passengers on track, therefore I was not prepared to settle for a bodged job.
I seem to remember that there is useful details on the Demon Tweeks website...

It's only the way the crotch strapsactually fit that's different, the belts are the same in 996 and 997. I did all this too but fitting 996 belt to 997 instead.
they are similar.. but not the same in two areas.. the first as above.. secondly, the 997 harnesses have longer rear belt length due to the 997 rear cage mounting cross member is set further back than the 996. I had two sets, 997 & 996, fitted both to my gen 1 997 and the shoulder straps were exactly the same length. It's true the 996 attachment point on the bar is right behind the seat and it the rear part of the cage on the 997, just means if fitting in a 996 you would have a bit more slack to roll up and tidy.
