Hi all,

I'm having the exhaust mufflers replaced on my 996. The exhaust support brackets are in reasonable shape but the bolts are shearing off. The garage have asked me to source replacements. I've had a quote from the excellent folks who supplied the silencers for £600 the pair.

Part number 99611122

To avoid untold marital strife, could anyone recommend somewhere I could get used ones? I've looked to no avail.

To be clear, I don't mind a bit of a shoeing now and then - I went into 14 year old Porsche ownership eyes wide open - but £600 for a couple of supports is too much unless absolutely necessary.

Thank you as ever

I had the exhausts on my 996 replaced recently and had the same problem with the bolts in the brackets. My exhaust fitter just drilled out the old sheared and corroded bolts then replaced them with new SS bolts.

Jesus ********* christ.

As the first reply says, get someone to replace the bolts and do some welding. For 600£ you could have them made in unobtanium by hand by naked sirens.

This ad is nothing to do with me, but there are a couple of new ones in the classifieds at a great price...

I had 3 of said bolts shear of my brackets recently on my 997, I just got the guy who was doing my Gundo hack to drill them out and weld in replacement stainless steel bolts. Easy and inexpensive job for the right person.

+1 Had mine drilled out and replaced at the last service. Wasn't expensive

Care to share some detail of who is doing the hack for you? Its something I want to do as well so anyone that has already worked on one would be great.

Hi Riccardo,

I had mine done locally by a company called Tricket Welding, here is a link to my post with plenty of info in, anything else just shout.
