Love my Turbo but miss a bit of growl. Don't really want to start spending £000s on a shiny new exhaust, mine is in good condition and also had the nice tips so happy to keep it. Was thinking I could de-cat, bit more power and a better sound, what do you think?

I've a friendly MOT station so not concerned about that. Is it worth de-catting completing? What would I need to do to achieve this? and finally would it sound better or am I wasting my time?

You can pick up a full system second hand for around £1000, and most 996 exhuasts dont come with tips - you transfer those over. I ran a Milltek on mine for around a year and that sounded great.

Unsure if changing the Cats for sports units (100/200 cell) would give a better sound, but removing the cats completely should, and is certainly the cheapest option too.

maxpaul - just reading about this on 6speed - any photos of where to drill sounds like a decent mod for f*** all! What diametre did you drill? and do you do both sides?

Here is the 6speed article on the turbo exhaust mod, on the 2nd page he shows a diagram.
I was going to do it but ended up with a Gemballa exhaust.

Amazing how things change. Drilling holes in exhausts was a mod the Corsa brigade were laughed at for. Listening to the sound on the link and it sounds as it should do.

Just saying and not having a go.

This looks like the same principle by which the GT3 exhaust works in 'Sport'; i.e. it bypasses the main 'muffler' with a valve, which then closes in 'normal' mode, circulating the exhaust gases through the whole system.
