Your vote: 991 Sports Exhaust yes or no?

So... brand new 991 C2S. I'm loving it - it's a terrific drive, and a big step up from the 997.1 I knew of old. I also think Porsche have done a nice job on the "emotion" bit: the engine and exhaust sound in the cabin under hard acceleration in Sport+ mode is great. The question then is: what about having a Porsche Sports Exhaust fitted by my OPC to turn up the emotions dial one notch higher?
Is this a great way to spend £2,500?
Or is this totally naff?
I started off resolutely parked in the "it's naff" camp, but am wondering if I'm being too much of a purist about this.

Me personally if its a Cab then yes no question because roof down it sounds amazing,
If its not a cab then I don't think so, if you want to drive around with the windows down all the time then maybe it does crackle on the over run, but really your £2,500.00 is entertaining or annoying bystanders if you have the windows up.
Windows closed the standard exhaust in 'Sport' is amazing the in built sound symposia really does work.
But as always, borrow one from the OPC and decide for yourself, but for me windows up, no wind noise just that lovely, lovely sound with the standard setup.

you pays your money and takes your choice, everyone's different, but you could spend your money on the club aero kit, because Mr Parker your car is just simply stunning.

Agreed. i use a bit of foam laid over the aperture. Much more pleasant and can hear the actual exhaust better.OP: I have PSE (and a cab) and it sounds fantastic on a back road, but it drones in the cabin on the motorway, so I switch it off then.

I've got PSE but if I didn't I wouldn't pay £2500 to retro-fit it. The standard zorst sounds good, just in a different way.Is this a great way to spend £2,500?

I didn't really use a sock
i stuffed about 2 inches of high density gap filling foam down the hole. Also with the coupe you get some more sound deadening material behing the panel but the panel also has a prong to push the sound deadening slab away to leave the hole uncovered and let the sound through. I also snapped this off to keep the hole covered as much as possible. I love exhaust noise but that whiney fake intake drone does my head in. Are you getting the impression that i dont like the sound symposer

It sounds too contrived (which it is) and unnatural. IMO the standard cars (991 and 991S) actually sound nicer without it.
Of all the 911s I've ever driven, the 2.2S and 997GT3 sounded the best, and the 996 PSE was the best optional sports exhaust.
I'd spend that money elsewhere.

Buy what you want and enjoy it and screw the opinions of others, it's your money, your car and ultimately your ears which will make the call on whether it's worth it or not.
I'd go with PSE although £2,500 is about £700 over what my OPC do a retrofit for.

There is definitely a modern phenomenon of contrived exhaust sound... I haven't heard a 991 sports exhaust but hopefully it sounds better than the 997. It's odd because the 996 sounded really good with PSE.
Cars that get it right: Merc 63, SLS, any TVR, V10 M5
Cars that get it wrong: AMV8, new M5, 458. There's a synthetic quality to the sound which jars. I was particularly disappointed with the Aston Martin, even after removing fuse 22.

Personally, if you want to really extract emotion out of the car, I'd spend the money on making the car go faster and handle better. The standard exhaust sounds nice enough above 5k rpm!
Book yourself a track day and tuition with an instructor who knows 911s (someone like Shean Edwards, Marcus or Mike Wilds). It will be the best 'upgrade' money you could spend on your car and cost far less than PSE.
