Toying with the idea of a 12-18mth old Turbo or Turbo S as my daily driver (12k/pa) but am wondering if the extra for the 'S' is worth it for the sort of use I'll be doing apart for pub bragging rights. It'll be spending a lot of time on the M4 but I've some great driving roads either end and the extra poke to get through traffic might be useful.

Anyone got experience of both? I doubt I'll be disappointed whichever I choose.

Depends on the spec of the used Turbo. You can spec a Turbo up to the level of an S- but it will cost you most Turbos I have seen don't have the important options. Options specifically around the chassis and performance enhancing ones, not aesthetic.

Coming from a 7.2 that did not have the options, the technology is very noticeable on spirited drives and makes for a more enjoyable all round experience. Given you will be driving in the real world (as opposed to PHers who drive like Walter around Paddock Bend on every drive ;-) ), the technology works so the whole is greater than the sum of the parts.

There are plenty of luddites here on PH, however, who will convince you that Porsche have lost their way and don't know how to design/engineer a drivers sports car... and they should have stopped building cars in 1974 of course... hehe

PDCC, Dynamic engine mounts, PTV, PDLS, PCCBs, Spyder centrelocks, sports chrono etc all standard on the S. Then of course the additional power smile

In Sports Mode the TurboS takes on an edgy persona - ready for a fight anytime; and in Sports Plus mode the TurboS becomes a rabid animal, straining at the leash like a crazed Mike Tyson, happily smeering 4wd power drifts on demand.

most turbo'swere speced up to S spec so save 15k and chip it to 565BHP and go faster than the S for 15k less.

No Porsche warranty? Brave. Most Turbos were not specced to S spec. Else people would have bought an S.

Really need to identify your must have options. For me it was the chrono pack,Pdk, centre lock wheels and pccbs. I wasn't to worried about torque vectoring, however when searching for a turbo, it became very apparent that it was difficult to find this spec in the colours I wanted so I started looking at the turbo s version. At the time there was more selection.

I wanted the centre lock wheels and pccbs for looks and performance. However the added benefit is there is no brake dust over the alloys and they are much easier to repair when my OH curbs them biggrin

The other benefit of turbo s, is the 700nm, 523bhp is permanent in sport plus mode rather than temporary temporary for a few seconds. Though if you have the chrono pack you would be hard pushed to tell the difference.

Having driven a few turbo 997.1 and 997.2s, the turbo s engine note is louder on sport plus especially outside. Still needs an after market exhaust IMHO to be any where near the sound I would like to hear .... http://www.europipe.be/europipe_porsche_exhausts_v...

I don't think residuals will be any better which ever you choose. They will both lose around £10k pa and £20k on the trade in year for at least the first few years if you are buying from 12-18months old.
