996 c4s or a 997 c4s is the extra worth it
Discussion
i,m looking to buy my first ever Porsche. What should i buy. It has to be 911.( I had the 911hul poster as a kid)and the urge wont go away
i like the 996c4s and they seem pretty good value but can stretch to a 07 997c4s.
What's the view out there.any advise would be welcome.

You can stretch to a 997 C4S? Im only seeing them around £28k cheapest. And most expensive 996's are around £25 so thats a big stretch really.
Personally i would go for the 997 but not sure whether i would go for the cheapest one. I have a 996 C4S and it came with a warrantied new Porsche fitted engine but for looks alone i would go for the 996. But, if i had the money i would of liked a 997 but would prefer the Turbo buts that a long way off for me at the moment.

It depends on your true budget.
I haven't looked recently, but at around 28k you might pick up a 996 turbo.
On the other hand the 997 interior is a far nicer place to be.
Again, a turbo is going to have higher running costs, so I think your best is to drive a few & see what you like.
It depends what you want out of it too. Speed machine or cruiser?
Either way they are both superb cars.

i am in a similar situation, been searching a while for a good C4S cabriolet, but now possible considering the 997 Carerra S as well, quite like the idea of a 3.8 litre, more performance than the C4S, but somehow less distinctive looks wise than the C4S which has a far more aggressive front end, it's a really tricky decision!

I agree with wot your staying but I wouldn't have a cab you lose the stiffnessand the its all about the handling. Mine has only 34k on it and is looking for a new home bigricho said:
If it was on looks and sound alone, then i'd be going for a 996 C4S with PSE! Such an aggressive looking car, constantly find myself eyeing the classifieds for these.
It's strange as the rest of the 996 range does absolutely nothing for me, in terms of looks.
Agreed mate. I like the Targa though. You after one?,It's strange as the rest of the 996 range does absolutely nothing for me, in terms of looks.

I've been looking, and being tempted by E46 M3s and 996 C4s's for the last 3 months! My mom has had a couple 911's over the last 15 years so I'm well versed in them!Yes... I forgot about the Targa. I had the pleasure of being alongside a 997 targa 4 for about 40mins up the A1 on Thursday, what a thing of beauty!
