someone told me that you struggle to get any extra power out of a 993 carrera (non vario) without a 3.8 conversion....

any comments thoughts?

cheers

Depends how deep ya wallet is, but certainly assuming a decent lump to start- with mapping & sports exhaust reasonable gains are achiveable.

Spend loads & you can still get a lot of power from a 3.6, way above a standard 3.8, not cheap tho.

Supercharger!!!!

Mine's being fitted (hopefully) at the end of this month.....

Plenty cheaper than a 3.8 as well...

interested to see so many people going the supercharged route.

please let me know how you get on with the 993 super charger

Here is the man who knows:

www.ninemeister.com

Lots of conversion to 964 and 993...

The 400 bhp non turbo, non supercharged 993 does exist. They made it.

Ninemeister are doing mine.

Their n/a Motec conversions give plenty of power too, I just fancied some proper low-down torque rather than a revvy highly-tuned motor - I suppose it depends what you prefer.

The supercharger is also fairly bolt-on in the sense that it can be removed and put on another car, it should be easy to revert the engine to standard.

hello,

I've had my ninemeister SC on my 993 for about 2 years and 30k miles now. I'm also running slightly lower compression (9.5) and water/methanol injection as I have turned the boost up a little (2.5" pulley). I have a tip and having the low end torque completely changes the car. I keep an eye on the detonation which is under control even in our luke warm summers.

Putting out about 320 to the wheels.

Regards, Mark.

Mark I two have a 9m SC done about 25K. Want to go to 3" pulley. Can you explain your detonation/cooling issues. I have neither than I know of.

cmj,

yep no probs. Went to 3" from 3.2" no problem but going to 2.5" heats the air a bit too much. Hence went first to chargecooler but to heavy then ended up at water injection. Which has loads of followers on turbobuick.com . I watch the detonation detected by the sensors to give me some confidence. I've posted lots on this on rennlist in the archives along with others including power curves at different boosts.

Mark.

Of course, another option is to go for a turbo conversion. Mine is due at 9M later this month and I hope to get in excess of 500 bhp when complete.
Not bad for a cabrio!

I've got mine in for a small Engine upgrade at a company called Cartronic www.cartronic-motorsport.de in germany.

They write:
The power increase of the Porsche 993 motors is done by optimisation of the ignition- and injection characteristic diagram of the digital motor electronics. Beside extensive modifications in the partial-and full load characteristic diagram the cutoff speed will be slightly increased of about 120 U/min.

Both serial end muffler will be exchanged against a modified sport muffler system. By a constructional modification of the inner design an ameliored flow of the current as well as a very sonorous sound muffler noise will be achieved.

At the 200 kw models a power increase to 213 Kw (290 PS) can be obtained by the installation of a special air filter as well as the installation of a greater gas regulator part; this together with a torque increase of 10 %.

If you're looking for more power they also have a Turbo kit up to 550 bhp

When I get my car back I can tell you the difference

When I had my C2 had 9M do a rolling road remap of the ECU.

Resulted in a 30+ hike in the BHP
