Afternoon all,

I've got a water leak issue that appears to be getting worse (not sure why!) and was wondering if the location is a common problem. I know convertibles can leak, but this one seems a little odd.

Basically, water is dripping down into the drivers side from where the hood meets the seal point on the windscreen. The water drips down onto the door from the hood seal (just where the armrest door pull is and above the bonnet/boot release button) and then onto the carpet but is now also running down the A-post and onto the door speakers. There is a flocked section on the hood which you can feel is wet from inside the car. Are there some drains somewhere which might be blocked where the water should be channelling away? Or is this just a case that the fabric needs re-waterproofing?

The inside bit of the hood on the passenger side doesn't get wet at all so no issue there.

If anyone's experienced a similar problem, I'd be interested to know how you fixed it.

Afternoon all,

Been monitoring the above water leak - seems to have stabilised but I still can't see where the water is tracking in. Going to get myself a half-cover just to go over the hood for the winter as will certainly help until I can fix it.

Again, any thoughts would be much appreciated smile

Its probably only happening when its very heavy rain. All cab leak with the amount of rain we have had in the last few weeks

If i follow you correctly, it could be the rubber trim that mates to the windscreen frame has become too hard to adequately mould to the metal and seal water tight. Examine the softop leading edge and give it a good clean. There are products that can lube up the rubber and make it a little more supple.

When closing, is the hood symetrical before you lock in the clamp?

I had the same problem with my 987. I solved the problem by re waterproofing the hood. The water runs off the hood before it gets a chance to soak in.

Thanks for the replies and suggestions.

Funny you should mention the hood alignment. It's something I had noticed that it is slightly off-centre. (Sits slightly to the left) But I've made a point of trying to centre it as I close the latch. It's not out by by much though.

I know the risks with convertible ownership (used to have a mk1 elise which was not exactly watertight but had nothing inside to actually get wet!) The main thing I'm concerned about here is that the water tracks done the a-pilar before dripping down over the door speakers...not ideal! Going to try a couple of things this weekend and will definitely have a look at the rubber where it meets the screen. Waterproofing it again isn't going to hurt either though. What is the best product to use?

You will probably find the carpet under the seat is soaking wet too.. I used Autoglyms fabric hood cleaner.
