Puncture: N1 vs N2 & PS2 vs PZero
Discussion
Bought my 997.2 C2S a month ago from an OPC. 24 hours into owning it I realised that the NSR tyre was down by 0.7 Bar. Topped it up and kept an eye on it - it's losing about .25bar/week. Turns out there's a screw in it and - I'd claim - the rate of pressure loss puts the screw in it well before I took delivery. I've been in a to-and-fro discussion about this with the dealer and they'd offered to go 50:50 on the cost of a new PS2. Wasn't too happy but would probably go with it - not worth the hassle to push any further.
However, here's the sting - when I took it in, it turned out that the existing rear is N1 rated, which is apparently discontinued in PS2 and Porsche won't sanction mixing N1 & N2 PS2s, therefore meaning that all 4 tyres would need to be replaced. A brief WTF?! moment ensued.
What they're now offering is to swap all four (which are more than half worn) for a nearly new set of P Zeros from a car they've just taken in, at no cost to me.
On the face of it a decent deal, but I've become less of a fan of Pirellis in recent years, on both car and bike - Michelin seem to be well ahead in the development wars. Recent experience and thoughts on this gratefully received!

Am I right in reading that you bought a car from an OPC with different rated N tyres? Under the Porsche warranty they can't do that can they? They should be fitting the same N tyres all round surely?
Not quite: the car came with all N1 rated tyres. These (apparently) aren't available any more - new PS2s are all N2 rated. I tend to agree on the Pirellis though. Whilst I'd be happy to switch all 4 when the rears wear out, I don't see why I should cough for the replacement of all four a month into ownership, when I can demonstrate that the screw was almost certainly in the tyre when I took delivery.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
