Porsche’s record celebration at Brands Hatch
259 moving Porsches on Kent circuit -- Festival declared a huge success
With over 3,000 cars on display, and a new world record, the inaugural Brands Hatch Porsche Festival lived up to its billing as a unique celebration of Stuttgart’s finest. An eclectic mix of race action, rare historic machinery, hot-lap rides, rally displays and off-road action with the new Porsche Cayenne kept a 20,000 strong August Bank Holiday Monday crowd suitably entertained.
Early risers on Monday morning were also treated to a new world record for the largest number of moving Porsches on an under 2km circuit. In the end, 259 models squeezed nose to tail around the famous Indy bowl much to the delight of the organisers, the Porsche Club of Great Britain. "It was some sight," explained Jeff Maynard of the Club. "You had everything from a rare 959 to a splattering of Boxsters. We could have maybe found room for a few more, but for a first attempt, we really can’t complain!"
With the infield resembling a Porsche factory car park, visitors to the 375-acre Kent site, were able to get up close and personal to the assembled £15m historic racecar collection which included the oldest racing Porsche in the world today, a 1950s 356, fresh from its exploits at the Classic Le Mans event.
Fund raising activities during the course of the Festival raised over £10,000 for beneficiary charity, CLIC (Cancer and Leukaemia in Childhood).
"It really was an event to savour," added Jonathan Palmer, managing director of Brands Hatch. "An event to truly stamp its mark on the motoring and motorsport calendar."
