Hi, the switch for battery cut off can be turned off.. Bottom of centre console flip switch with red button.

Open and close drivers door as this has some control over it... Then try and start it.

I get this occasionally with my Mk2. I put the key into the ignition, turn it one click, it all lights up, pumps start working, then I go to the next click for ignition... and nothing happens.

Try it again (all in one motion) and nothing. Take the key out and wait a few seconds, put the key back in and try again, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt... weird.

faulty ignition switch? its replaceable individually (ie you dont need a whole mechanism/lock/etc)
theres also the possibility that theres an electrical fault and its no longer reading with that key or the good old fashioned starter motor.

Thanks Fioran0, I am sure that it is an ignition fault on mine... Cheers D!

If the locks and alarm work but the display doesn't light up when you put the key in the ignition then it sounds like the emergency ignition cut off. If you have checked the one inside the car and all seems well there, check the one under the bonnet.
This happened in my mates mk1 CS the other day. When we were poking around in the front looking for the tyre pressure gauge we knocked the rocker switch under the bonnet into the off position. Took a while and a look in the manual to find out what was wrong but eventually worked out we just needed to flick the toggle switch back towards the front of the car. As soon as we did that everything was back to normal. Car started first time.

Thread closure. It has the cut off switch under the bonnet. Thanks all.

It *has* the cut-off switch under the bonnet? This thread was all about making sure you had a Clubsport? wink

Glad to hear it's sorted - that can't have been a fun few days. Still, at least it wasn't at the height of great driving weather...

Glad you're sorted rathur.

I have an identical car in identical colour. Mine is currently stuck in the garage with more complex issues.

I have no 12v feed coming from my alarm unit to the kill switches, then to the big solenoid.

I wish I could fix mine as easily. furious
