Sorry looking red 968 on the A14 near the M6 at the moment. Not sure if it's aquaplaned in the horrible conditions today or someone has given it a nudge. Looks to have gone up the embankment and hit a sappling. Always sad to see an iconic 90's car written off.

I hope (and I'm confident) that the owner will be fine which I guess is the important thing.

Thankfully the owner, a good friend of mine is fine, although extremely unhappy at the prospect of his P&J being written off. From what he said it sounds as though standing water was the cause, a Lotus Elan suffering the same fate no long previous ..

Glad he is ok. I'm sure the car is an uneconomic repair on the basis the insurers can minimise their loses by selling the salvage for a decent price. If he however feels it is repairable, and is prompt and proactive with his insurers they may well allow him to retain the car for him to repair at his leisure.

Travelling between Liverpool and Huntingdon today, I've seen 7 accidents. Horrible conditions for driving.

Hi all, Thanks for your concern, yes it was I

I hit a huge lake on the A14 (having slowed down due to the conditions) and just became a Passenger, ended up going up the bank backwards and hit a Lotus Elan that had had the same accident an hour or so earlier...

There was one matrix sign saying Standing water about 5 miles back and that was it...

Very annoyed as it was immaculate body-wise and I had spent £2k in the last 2 months getting brakes, tyres, bearings, Cambelt, etc, so I just had a few little jobs left to do to get it perfect...

Thanks Mate, it is, you never even got a go!

So weird that two '90s red sports cars get caught out at the same spot

That's a sad sight. How did you persuade the recovery people to bring it home? Usually they're all for keeping recovered cars at their premises so they can charge for storage. Or did you arrange transport yourself?

Bad day for yourself and the Lotus chap frown

My Insurers have made the assumption that it will be written off and want to save on storage costs. I am happy to have it at home so that I can try and figure out how to get my CDs out of the autochanger in the boot...

It didn't look so bad as I drove past on the Eastbound carriageway (Lotus was gone at this point). Shame there's so much damage to the rear panel and rear quarters. That's where the costs will be significant.

What took you so long?

I have barely done 2,000 miles on the new £630 M030 Front Disks and pads...

Humour in the face of adversity, good man!

As said in the other place very glad you are okay and that the Lotus owner is as well. It is a crying shame about the cars though, theirs has been with them through more things than they care to remember and you’d got yours ‘just so’ only a short time ago.

Genuinely, I’m not after parts (unless you happen to be running a CS clock as mines gone all pixally!) but there is a very strong case for buying back if the price is right and breaking yourself/by buyers under supervision. The way the value of these has gone in the last few years is eye opening and some bits are becoming very hard to source.

Of course there is nothing stopping you buying a tatty one with a sound shell and building one to your own spec...

The main thing you are fine, you could always buy another one I know its not the same.
I hope you get a good insurance payout.
