Since getting my C4S i still go around a few showrooms both Porsche and others in my usual perusal of cars.
I have noticed that obviously peoples perception of you owning a Porsche can change, ranging from the white van man on the M25 who after going through a tunnel at full chat with PSE, gave me the thumbs up, to some knobber who gave me the finger as i went past him at 28mph, again with PSE sounding off.
But garages i have found now do give you that "mmmm, Porsche, here comes my monthly sales bonus walking in"!
Now of course Porsche dealers dont wet themselves just because you pull up but from arriving in my Audi A3 to the Porsche, there is a hint of "improvement". But today went into a BMW dealer to actually look at Minis for "she that rules" and ended up spending 2 mins with the Minis and 20 mins sat in a M6! The rather nice receptionist nearly fell over herself helping me when i walked in, in sight of my parking space. Then i must of had at least 3 salesmen come over asking if i needed help.
On a side note, the M6 is a seriously good bit of kit, never been a fan of "big sports cars" but there is something about the shape of the 6 series and the M6 does look good but im not sure i would select one of the options that i saw which was soft-touch door closing??!!

Remember: the salesman is not your friend. He just wants to seperate you from your hard earned cash and will do whatever it takes to get there!

Yep, definitely noticeable but the converse is most particularly so: I used to make a point of turning up at BMW/Merc etc showrooms (with intent to buy) on my bicycle - the guys who got the business were those who treated me sensibly and didn't make assumptions about me. The guys who really got my business were the ones who noticed that my bicycle was worth more than a fair bit of their stock...

Several years ago I turned up in similar manner at Murdo Murchison, a used car dealer near Stirling on my bike, to have a look at a Maserati 4200 I'd previously spotted on their forecourt. Five minutes later, one of my colleagues turned up on HIS bicycle, to look at precisely the same car. We decided that, if we both wanted it, we'd settle either by coin toss or mortal combat... ...the sales guy didn't bat an eyelid, handed us the keys and told us to go have a good play. Huge kudos to the guy -it's a pity the car's gearbox wasn't playing the game properly otherwise he'd probably have had a deal.

I find it incredible how so many people get suckered in by sales tactics.

Ego massaged, money handed over.

I agree!

I tend to do lots of research on what I want before I enter a showroom....the sales people are purely order takers to me...most of the time, they no less about their product than I do...
