Just wanted to know if anyone has bought the current GTS and what they thought of it.

I'm in the process on deciding whether to buy this or the Diesel S, so any opinions are welcome

No direct experience, but I am pretty confident the Diesel S will seem as fast, if not faster, in most situations and will hold its value much much better.

You'll be waiting 6 months for a diesel s. I was looking at a GTS too. Looks nicer than the diesel s and sounds nice. Agree diesel s will hold better value.

GTS hold value quite good as well don't they ?

Personally its an easy decision. If you want a cheap to run car with good economy then go and buy one (prius, kia Rio 1.1 etc..)

Have you test driven a Cayenne diesel? They are very impressive to drive and will hold their value much better than the petrol.

I've driven the Diesel and Turbo. The former is adequate while the latter is bonkers!

I've heard the GTS which sounds wonderful and it looks the part while the Diesels' need a lot of options to prep them up

I'm inclined towards the GTS, They're instantly available (meaning higher dep'n I know), but am a little concerned about having to continually fill the tank as I expect less than 20 mpg

Depending on your mileage, I suspect the depreciation will be more than the fuel costs tgh...

Just look at the previous gen cars - boggo basic Diesel Cayenne - New £45K now approx. £28K, Nice spec GTS - New £65K now approx £28K

GTS owners don't worry about fuel bills or depreciation.

Look at the value of the used face-lifted Diesel, I know where I would put my money.

The diesel just doesn't feel worth £60k to me, which is what you'd pay for a new one with decent kit. In comparison, a RRS HSE which is equally not that fast is around £52k haggling hard.

I know most people go for the panamera and cayenne diesels.....but I think that's a lot of money to spend to get the Porsche badge on a car that isn't really that sporty, and needs to be stacked with loads of options before it comes with the same kit a RRS gives you for free.

My partner has just bought a GTS and we've had it for 3 weeks (succeeding a 2009 GTS). Stunning car, and a real improvement on the previous model, especially the interior. Performance is very good (feels on a par with a 2004 Cayenne Turbo I used to own), although we haven't really stretched its legs properly until it's run in. In Sport mode the exhaust sound is wonderful. Ride quality on 21 inch rims is impressive, and the car feels very civilised - certainly less jittery on UK roads than the old one. We've just changed them onto 20 inch rims with winter tyres and there's not a huge difference to the driving feel (which there was in the old car - much softer).

The gearbox is seamless, and having 8 gears makes for a very relaxed drive (should you want it). When you want to press on (using sport mode), the gearbox changes down quickly and there's plenty of power for overtaking (although I imagine the new diesel S will be even better with all that torque!).

Fuel consumption has been a surprise - the overall average on the old GTS never got above 19 or so mpg, although on a longish motorway run at sensible speed you might see 22 mpg. I had a 140 mile round trip in the car last week (in pretty bad weather so speed was stuck at mid 50's most of the way) and I saw 27.7 for the trip. Day to day driving shows circa 24 mpg and the overall average on the trip is 22.9 (but I'm sure that'll go down as we start to use the performance a bit more).

I love the look of the current Cayenne and I think the GTS looks very good. Ours is Carmine red with black wheels and high gloss black package.

All in all, I'm pretty gobsmacked about how good the car is.

New VW Touareg V8tdi is a good option if you don't mind a lesser badge on the front.

Have you driven a Cayenne. They are a LOT more than just a badge.

Yes, both S and diesels, and watched one (Turbo) keep up with a 911 around Arnage corner on a demo drive, just don't underestimate the VW which is based on same chassis after all with 335 hp and 800Nm of torque.
Have you driven the VDub?

" How does it compare?

I touched on this a bit above, but I have to say I think it’s pretty compelling against much of the opposition: just as well finished, probably better thought out inside and comparably big too. If badge counted for nothing I reckon Cayenne and Range Rover Sport drivers would be happier in this – it does the everyday SUV job better than either of them. But badge does count and that means the Touareg will never get the recognition it deserves. Depreciation will be hefty, so the trick is to wait a few years and snap a used one up."

Many thanks for that

Does yours have the air suspension, as I've only tried Cayennes with it on and wondered if the suspension was to hard with the standard steel springs and the 21" wheels

Nick - it does have air suspension, yes. Before I got my Cayenne Turbo in 2004, I drove an S with steel springs and found the suspension much too hard (and that was with 19 inch wheels I think), but I haven't driven a new shape Cayenne without air suspension.
