Basically my 996 wont go on forever so next year probably looking at my next car and I have loved owning my Porsche so naturally why would I want anything else other than another Porsche!!
Here is the downside Mrs doesn't see it quite like that as a newly wed naturally kids have been discussed maybe next couple of years who knows!
My wife is not convinced the Porsche will still be a suitable mode of transport and therefore wants something more practical!
Just after some feedback from those out there who have kids and how practical they still find their Porsches?!
I have told her there are suitable Porsche baby seats, a fold up pram would fit in the boot and therefore the Porsche would still be practical enough until kids start growing up...

My kids are 12 & 9, had my 996 Coupe for just over three years & no problems yet smile

Not sure I'd want to be carrying babies about in one mind.

Bought my 3.2 when my son was 9 months old, he is 8 now and it is just starting to be a problem, oddly the 991 is worse than the old cars. He takes after me so is very tall for his age.

The car is a third car, but we have had plenty of weekends away and camping at Le Mans as a family in it, not a problem. It did get easier once we didn't have to take the buggy though.

Nice try! If your future children are your first, you will be astounded at the amount of 'stuff' you think you need when you just pop out to the garage for a twix!

The pram won't go in a 911 boot, and trying to strap babies into the back of a 2 door car would get old v quick..A car with a decent boot would be the sensible option, until they little 'uns don't need a pram anymore (3 1/2 yrs ish).

We looked at a Cayene to replace our Freelander, but it is huge, so my vote would be get a newer 911 & buy a Macan wink

I had a 996 when my 2 kids were small. They are amazingly practical cars. We went 4 up all over Europe and only had to call time when my daughter hit 5ft tall!

One of the benefits of reduced space is that you simply can't carry loads of unnecessary primary coloured plastic everywhere. This makes you think and behave differently and is really liberating.

My kids loved it too - they could see out of the side windows for a start.
I'm not kidding when I say this, but to me it was the perfect family car!

Do not part with it unless you absolutely have to!

My kids are 10 and 7 and were getting too big for my 996.

So I bought a Spyder. smile

Don't forget that the rear seats in a 996 ( not sure about the 997) are only attached with a bolt and Velcro and come out easily.
Gives a tad more room if needed.

I happily took my two along in the back of the turbo but then I had a problem when 3rd showed up so I had to trade it for a gt2 and bought a 207 for lugging kids.

A Quinny Zapp buggy will easily fit into a 996 front boot with a bit of room to spare.

Is your 996 likely to be your only car? It's practical enough (I've got seat belts installed in the back of my GT3 and often take the kids on long trips in it, although since it has fixed buckets it is a bit of a pain trying to 'post' their seats into the rear of the car through the small gap left if I put one seat fully forward and the other fully back) but I know that the other half wouldn't want to put up with the limitations it would impose on a daily basis for her use ferrying them to school, activities, shops, etc. so we just have an old family saloon car for those duties!

I have been there myself, in the end kept the 911 for weekends and the summer time.
We then got a MPV, which then takes all the knocks and bumps in the Tesco car parks etc and school run and running around during the week.

However we can still fit inside my 911 for car shows, Silverstone is about the limit distance wise for comfort.

Our 3 year old enjoys short trips in the 996 and classic 911SC. But neither are really what I would consider practical for serious family use. I'd only consider it if you have regular access to another more family oriented car. We have a Volvo estate for that purpose and it is always the weapon of choice for a longer trip with luggage or 4 up with 2 kids (3 year old and baby). But as a second car a 911 is not bad as a short haul toddler ferry and doesn't cause any real issues.

I have 3 boys under 5. We have a Q7 as defo need the big lugger for towing caravan ski trips general shopper and missus's car - new 981 S just in case we ever get a baby sitter and a nice sunny day at the same time which is more odds than winning the euromillions and now contemplating a 997 turbo for a good kiddy runaround when the wife needs me to take the kids somewhere like Donnington hehmmmm.
Porsches are not really practical for kids but do kids need practicalty - No.

So the decision is do you want a porsche or not....

Sounds like the thin end of the wedge actually. Are you sure now she's married you she's not working on the next stages of the plan to balls up everything you used to love and that she considers trappings of a bachelor that are no longer appropriate for Her man?
