Car is a 996:

It's a bit of a rhetorical question. But this was not noticed by trader who specialises in selling Porsche. I must add that this trader is someone I know of, but have never had any kind of dealings with*. I see his cars (all Porsche) from time to time and have often pointed out poorly fitted windscreens to the people looking after them for him.

He doesn't appear to care much, and I've pointed out some pretty horrendous (as well as obvious) issues on a few of his cars, but it looks like they get sold regardless.

I thought I'd raise this subject just in case there are any potential buyers out there (or current owners) who don't know any different, or wouldn't notice this kind of detail.

The rubber trim around the car in the photo is for a Ford Transit (1986-2000).

*Relax, Henry hehe

I was so busy looking at the glass I didn't notice the seal. It does look a bit chunky. hehe

Is it really much more expensive to do this type of job properly?

All comes down to who's doing it, and ultimately, price. It's a price-driven market where a lot of vendors are cutting each others throats to get the business (and this 'slashing' also means that the insurance companies' nominated suppliers are on low average invoice prices too).

My guess is that whoever fitted this windscreen didn't take a new trim frame because he either didn't think he'd need one, or, he low-balled on price. A customer cannot dictate about trims when they don't know the first thing about fitting. The onus is always on the installer. This, regardless of any excuse, is a massive fail. Unacceptable.

Does the 996 use any other Transit parts? I had no idea the economising went that far.

Maybe we could try Transit crankshaft oil seals - perhaps they'd be more reliable... getmecoat

It's just the mindless idiots who think it's an acceptable substitute.

We all know that a performance seal has been fitted. The transit is one of the fastest vehicles on the road and often they are glued to the back of my 911 as I'm pressing on. :-)

Perhaps it was an attempt to address a creaking windscreen problem.
