After 4 years with my 996 C4S I started looking for a 997 C4S. The market was quite strange this time round as there were not many cars for sale and either cars were sitting around for a very long time or being snapped up the minute they were for sale. After seeing some very poor examples despite what the dealers were advertising I started focussing more on condition rather than spec. My old C4S had almost £20k of options and the only one that interested me was PSEsmile

After a while I was losing hope when finally I was contacted by Tom at 911V, who said he had a black/black 997 C4S, FPSH, new MPS2, just had major service at Porsche and recent brake/discs. I am very fussy about my cars but for some reason I went for it without seeing it.

Car was as described, if maybe even better than expected, the funny thing was the guy who previously owned it only lived one road away but used as it as a weekend car and had always garaged it hence why I had never seen it, we are subsequently mates now as he is a Porsche enthusiast too.

Only thing that car needed was PSE which I added. Biggest difference for me is PASM, in normal mode it rides much smoother over speed bumps(not having a front lip helps too) and also on uneven tarmac and in sport mode it is soooo much better on the corners at any speed it gives me much more confidence to push it. The PSE is starting to open up, however the one on my 996 C4S car sounded in my view nicer and louder, however saying this it's still a huge improvement over the standard system and makes the car more enjoyable and gives a more sporty perception. The performance is probably 30% better definitely feels more torquey and from the small run I had last Sunday the car is more easily able to keep up with turbos than before. Design wise the 996 C4S was a lovely looking thing the rear strip was a nice touch, the front lights probably my least favourite part of the car, on the 997 the wide arches seem more noticeable to me.

All in all very happy with the car and buying process, I am probably as fussy as they come about cars and all the boys at 911V made the transactions as smooth as can be. I will probably change for a 997 Turbo as would like more power however would need to change the exhaust which in turn would mean no Porsche warranty which has probably worked out for me in the past.

I have attached some pic and a couple from the run we had on ice the other day, I had really missed out going on London Meets style drivessmile

Cheersbeer

Did you upgrade to PSE? What was the cost? Just about to move to the dark side and dabble in Porsche territory. Sourced an immaculate 997 C4S, has all the options except PSE.........

I'd be interested in the cost/place where you had pse fitted. Just been quoted £2200 for my 987.2....

Was a daring run, the improved 4wd system was put to good use.
Car looks fantastic in the flesh and sounds almost as good as the old c4s.
Looking forward to a track day

Thanks for all your comments, much appreciatedbeer

The car looks much nicer in the flesh, as you can tell I am no David Bailey. Koll from here is kindly touching up some pics and will post shortly.

The switchable PSE was fitted by Ph'er POPE who works at OPC Swindon, prices vary depending on whether you have sports chrono. I am not sure if he is still there or on hols as haven't heard from him the last couple of times I emailed. Price variance within OPC network is around £1k so worth shopping around.

Cars handling still impresses and can well believe the 7m 56 quoted for ring.

Will wait for the weather to warm up to organise the next London Meet.

When on the ice meet we did a pit stop at Silverstone for a coffee. When parked up I was approached by a lady called Caroline who asked if she could take photos of my car as she was an artist. She has done the below paintings which are quite interesting and unique, this was the first time someone has done a painting(for lack of correct term) of my carsmile

Whenever i see stuff like this, i do think perhaps people need to think about they can be more productive with their time as quite often it's just a load of hog wash...but then i remember i'm sitting reading an internet forum at 11.30pm - so who am i to judge?!

Met up with ph'er Koll last night.

Although we didn't do any timed runs his R8 minus the famous exhaust;) appeared to be as expected fairly similar in handling and performance to the C4S. PSE sounds in my view nicer than the R8 stock exhaust, R8 still gets a fair amount of attention.

Didn't have time to take many pics and as it was dark hard to find a good spot. Here is a couple of photos for now thanks to Koll.

Yes, not good to think;) Hence why better in real life.

On paper its roughly the same and ring time r8 is 8:04 and C4S 7:56
