Boxster Spyder , Are they as good as they say ?
Discussion
As per the question really.
Won't be a daily driver , odd track day , maybe some Euro trips etc. Normal sort of second car stuff.
I'm guessing one that hasn't got PSE will be less desirable, and lose a bit of the character that is part of the Spyder experience ?
Appreciate any replies from Spyder owners, and of course accompanied by the obligatory photo's. Which should be mandatory in all threads.

Better
Great cars, did the launch event when they first came out, so got the chance to try them on track back to back with various other boxsters.
Whether you think they're better than normal boxsters is subjective, dad prefered the power hood & heated seats of the S for instance, whereas I do more track driving & felt the increased dynamics were worth the trade off.
Certainly have a special feel to them as well.

Will you know I like you ...... so you will take this in the way its meant.....
The last thing we potential buyers need is another depreciation preventing thread singing the praises of these cars.
Until I have secured one (buckets and pccb please) they will remain the worst car that has come out of Zuffenhausen.
Nuff said.

Thanks for replies so far.
I have owned a couple of Porsche models up to now, last one being a 996 turbo . And although a great overall car it just left me cold TBH. Since driving a Caterham I think I understand why now. The old ethos "less is more" seems to ring true. And looking at the Spyder it seems to give you that less for "more" kick. Not as extreme as a Caterham of course, but along the lines of "adding lightness".
I say this without having driven one yet of course. But am looking for some opinions at this stage, so that I know if I am heading down the right path.

PM time me thinks !Read every review, they all say amazing, fantastic etc etc.
And guess what they are right, the cars awesome fun as a 2car and faster then you would ever think.
I own a GT3 and a Spyder, and guess what I am keeping the Spyder and selling the GT3.
buy it as a open top car and never think about the roof and you will always love the car.
Weight is a major key point to this car, or lack of it, so just watch what you want or buy imo.
Don't worry about the exhaust to much, I am fitting a Tubi Style, you have to hear one.
Also the PSE weighs more than the stock one lol.
look out for the ones without Spyder wheels, you def need spyder wheels and bucket seats to retain value in the car.
Then if you are using it as a open top car 100% don't buy one with the Bhp sapping AC again it also adds weigh and will end up broken at some point or needing new rads, Regas etc etc.
Also the launch colour will be the most sort after and imo looks the best anyway.
Yes all colours look great but the cars ment to be white :-) red would be my 2nd choice, not a fan of the other colours , but that's just a personal choice and hence why I bought white.
And last to make it not feel cheap inside , try and find one with leather pack.

Mr Demon, you didn't give PCCB's a mention?!!
Unless you're fiddling with the exhaust - which most people wouldn't if they're maintaining the warranty. I think PSE is almost essential. It's an open top car and it makes a big difference to the driving experience IMHO.
Edit..
Agree that Spyder wheels and carbon buckets are probably almost essential - even if only because the buckets cost an absolute fortune to purchase separately! Mine has PCCB which I think is a stunning addition.
.
And yes, without a doubt they are fine cars in any guise - even sport seated, turbo wheeled PDK's
PS apparently silver is faster and looks better with yellow calliper's!

The roof is fine - if it's raining, you just leave it on, like you would in any convertible. It doesn't let the rain in (until you open the door!). I don't see why you wouldn't use it in the same way you would any other car.
It certainly feels special, not sure why anybody would think it's just "ok".

I also love my PCCB, but not many cars have them, so it gets to a point what you want and how long youwant to ait for one to come up for sale when only 212 were made for the UK and 1/2 that for manual I guess.
And Black does not really suit the car at all imo and most for sale atm are black or PDK
Porsche only have 2 cars listed, one is black with Turbo wheels, the other silver with sports seats, neither are very desirable cars and not at £39k and 38k in those 2 specs.
So that leaves cheaper cars from 3rd party sales which remenber have no 2 years Porsche warray by now, unless extended.
there are only 2 white cars for sale , 1 is PDK and one has 26k miles and no buckets.
the best car for sale is a members car here, who bought it off another member here via Lei OPC, the Silver car with PCCB.
So I hope some one buys that so he can buy my 996 GT3 :-)
