Syvecs S8 Standalone review and results on 996 TT
Discussion
I don't really post alot on here, but thought I'd share my recent results.
I wanted some more power from my 996 and was worried about flash remaps for big power setups. After some research I found out that Syvecs had developed a full PNP kit for the 996/997 Turbo's.
When I got the car initially I started with a K24/26 setup which was nice but not fast enough
I saw a great deal on 911 Tuning's SKI850 kit and jumped on it.
Due to the amount of power this kit produces, I was keen on a standalone. Cue the Syvecs
This was the S8 version, and from the outset it looked like a great ECU to handle my setup.
The features which stood out for me were; Traction control, Rolling anti lag via a button, Launch control, Fail safe trips, switchable boost maps via a button etc...
Ryan.G of Syvecs Ltd mapped it on Abbey Motorsport's Dynapack.
Unfortunately the dyno wouldn't run the car with the front hubs connected, so we left them off and just connected the rear hubs.
There was no time to disconnect the front diff, so we had to keep the car in 4wd mode.
This resulted in the power figure being derived from the rear hubs only, even though the car was running in 4wd.
As I understand the viscous system, the front wheels get 5% of power as a minimum so we lost out on at least that.
We then had issues with the silicon join from the hard pipe kit crushing in when coming onto boost. Ryan and Mark then fitted some metal piping inside the silicon to stop the crushing.
Final power figures were 615 atw, and 620ft lb tq. This was with 1.5 bar peak and are DIN uncorrected figures.
This was on V-Power UK Pump fuel. If the front wheels were being measured it probably would have been closer to 650 atw.
Going by the fuel duty and pressure it is running around 750 flywheel hp.
On race fuel at the same boost we would be over 700whp.
The road test was awesome!
The Turbo's are coming in extremely quick, and I see positive boost from 2k onwards. The turbo kit really is very well balanced. Everything works together perfectly.
The ECU works wonders. The drive is very smooth, same as a stock car. With cold and hot starts being the same as stock as well.
There are no CEL's, and all stock features are retained including PSM and ABS. Even the issue with the fuel gauge reading incorrectly below a 1/4 tank gets resolved
The best thing was the traction control. It was crazy fun with it on! lol
It's below 0c here and the roads are not great. I could plant it in any gear and the traction would kick in when it needed to. It's not a harsh cut like on the stock system, but just pulls out timing until it grips. So it feels very smooth on the road, making it alot of fun even in these conditions!!
The rolling anti lag was great as well. With just a touch of a button I could build a bar of boost while rolling in 4th gear. The car would break traction straight away!
With the Antilag being used a 60-130 run in 4th gear alone was just 5.9 seconds. This was also with passenger so we have lots of room to improve
The fail safes include putting the car into limp mode if the Fuel pressure drops, so you save yourself a new engine if something does fail.
It also keeps the car in valet mode until the oil temp is up to 60c, so it won't let you go over 4.5k until then, which was another cool feature again.
I believe Switzer are the Syvecs distributors in N.America and have been testing on their 997 Turbo recently. They have cut the 1st-2nd gear change on their tip to just 0.6 seconds!
It really is an awesome piece of kit to have.

Big big thanks to Ryan.G for the tune, setup and support. He is a very knowledgable person and knows this ECU like no other.
