Hi everyone, currently on the look at for a 997 turbo. I remember reading about Porsches many years ago and people complaining of back ache from sitting slightly twisted to the left. Was this just the case on the older 911's?

Thanks,
Andrew

I actually get backache from mine and yet to find a comfortable position, it's very annoying to say the least!

I did a 1500 mile round trip in four days last year, no problems here.

I find it very difficult to get an optimal driving position in the 997 too - one that's comfortable for long-distance, but also let's you work the steering properly. I find there's not quite enough reach adjustment in the steering column; this leaves me having to adjust the seat just a bit too upright for comfort. Lower back pain is the usual result.

Or maybe it's just age... grumpy

Other cars now feel offset to me, was in a ml63 the other day and the accelerator felt to far rightsmile The 996 and 997 driving positions are spot on. I prefer the standard seats but will vary depending on your build.

I have buckets - no issues in mine. Very comfortable even on long journeys.

In a car without buckets, I normally do the following:

1. Lower seat as much a possible
2. Move backside as far back in seat as possible
3. Move seat forward until I can fully depress clutch with slight bend in my left knee
4. Move seatback to a position where my shoulders are fully supported
5. Rest my wrists on the top of the steering wheel - if it's in anyway a stretch or too high...
6. Adjust the steering wheel - normally as low and close as I can and still be comfortable

Sorry if teaching to suck eggs just thought it might be helpful. I appreciate this process is unlikely to work for absolutely everybody but it's brilliant for me! I never get back ache from driving, no matter how far and I'm always comforatble in the car. thumbup

I do too, but suff lower back pain on journeys in excess of an hour!!

Maybe I just need to keep adjusting the seat until I find a position that's good for me,

At tips!

A little off the original post
If you have firm seats and drive for a long period with an overly thick wallet in your back pocket ( not necessarily with money ) it can cause back ache according to my chiropractic, who has an habit of making mine thinner.

I get that but I get it in all cars, which is why CC is essential to me.

Think that more physiological than a seat issue, sadly.
