We're looking for a half cage and harnesses for the 996 - harnesses aren't much of a problem, but does anybody have any ideas where the best place to supply/fit a cage is?

What's the Tequipment cage like from a safety point of view? And can you fit harnesses to it straight out of the box? We already have recaros in the car.

Cheers all smile

The Tequipment cage is perfect for affixing harnesses to (as long as you buy the correct item)
It will most likely provide some extra protection, but would still allow the front of the roof/ A pillars to deform/crush in a heavy roll.
The Tequipment cage provides little or no additional torsional rigidity to the 996 shell however. If you looking to improve upon that, the Clubsport/RS cage is the way to go (just the rear section will give a noticeable improvement)

Unlike the Tequipment cage, the RS/CS cage is not a straightforward bolt in cage (the Tequipment item uses the seat belt fixings and two other holes that are already present in the 996 shell) The RS/CS cage requires drilling of the floorpan and additional strengthening plates fitting to its underside.

Tequipment cage.

Safety devices list cages for the 996gt3 model too.

As said above the tequipment cage offers no roll over protection.

Most obvious difference is the "X" design on the RS cage which is lacking from the clubsport version.

Hi Ben,

If you are interested, I have a full set of original and boxed 2x schroth harnesses with 996 fittings. These have been hardly used and still have their FIA ratings. I was intending to advertise in the new year.

If you are going to Goodwood tomorrow and if I make it down then happy to bring them along. You can also see what a full RS cage looks like.

PM me if interested.

See here: http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

Just done exactly the same thing to mine this week.

You will also need Sub Bars that attach under the seat so that you have mounting points for the sub straps (the bit that comes up between your legs.

I wouldn't say that the Twquipment cage offers "no" additional rollover protection. Just by the fact you have those extra pieces bolted into the cabin must offer some additional support to the roof if you rolled. Definitely nothing like the full cage though. But as said above, you would be into welding in mounting points into the body to get that in. And it costs over twice as much.

If all you want is harnesses, like I did, then Tequipment is the cheapest and easiest option. You can order them from an OPC, or try and find a used one, like I did.
