So my 964 is a 1993 plastic induction model, has done 105k miles, leaks no oil and has great engine compression.
At what stage if any should I be thinking about an engine rebuild?
Also the car has an extensive service record backed up by expensive maintenance by JZM and the likes

If well looked after, you shouldn't have any issues before 150k.

Generally the engine will let you know when it needs rebuilding.

Oil consumption will go way up. The engine can smoke much more frequently at cold start and then even after the engine is up to temp.

The engine will get noisy and often this comes from the valves stems and valve guide clearances getting big. Clunkier/deeper sounding noise often comes from excessive main or rod bearing clearances. Or the crankshaft develops excessive end play. There is then piston slap which is sort of between the sounds of worn valve hardware and worn bearings.

Oil pressure at hot idle can be low.

In these cases -- especially with the valves noisy -- you do not want to run the engine too much longer for a valve could fail and drop a head into the chamber and the engine can then suffer irreparable damage.

That's good I've got none of those.
Maybe the extensive maintenance with regular oil changes have helped .
Turns out the car has never had any panel damage either

Regular oil changes at reasonable intervals is the best thing you can do to extend the life of an engine.

So many treat oil change intervals as a matter of pride I guess thinking is the idea is to get the most miles out of their engine's oil as this gives them bragging rights.

I like to see how many miles I can get out of my engines so from the outset I hit upon 5K mile oil/filter services. 262K miles and counting on my 02 Boxster. 102K miles and counting on my 03 Turbo. Unless I get tired of these cars I might not buy another one.

You can always do a leakdown test, but the 964 lump was one of Porsche's best --- in some resects bettered by the 993, in others not.

The 964 is oft' the base for a highly tuned engine smile

Definately. It has good strong compression and all I get is very occasional drip of oil
