I'm specifically interested in the Boxster S but I think most current models come pre-wired ready to accept the PVTS but I have a question on costs. My insurance requires a tracking system to be fitted and naturally I thought about the PVTS which is on the insurance company's approved list.

Just wondering what costs are involved regarding installation and annual subscriptions. I believe it is a Cobra system of some kind. Does a device actually have to be fitted post build or is that done at the factory as part of the preparation and therefore becomes a case of "just switching it on" at the dealer?

Would fitting an alternate brand of system e.g Tracker causes any issues regarding the warranty for example?

It's pre-fitted at build - cost is on the website configurator - around £1k IIRC. You can then 'switch it on' as and when required. I don't know if they can be retrofitted.

I would've thought another tracker system would cause warranty issues.

Have you tried shopping around for insurance? You don't necessarily need a tracker on a Boxster, although this could be very location-dependent.

Hope this helps,

Not sure about fitting costs but you have to pay £200 per year for the VTS system subscription.

Waste of money. Better off finding an insurance company that does not require a tracker.

Hmm, can't seem to find it on the configurator and the brochure just talks about pre-wiring being standard but doesn't expand on that.

If it is however a £1000 installation (assuming it can be retro-fitted) plus £200 a year then that's a lot towards insurance that doesn't need a tracking device, perhaps time to shop around.

It's been taken off the Boxster config but showing as £1140 on a 911. That's probably what it means by pre-wiring.

I found several policies that didn't need one. Including Porsche Insurance, which is run by Marsh and placed with Aviva.

Cheers all - won't be going down that route and will instead find another insurance company who don't require it.
