Quick question, I've got a plastic screened '02 Boxster. Why does it have a button for a heated rear screen? If I press it the LED lights up orange signifying something's switched on, does it actually do anything or is it for show?

Really puzzling me wobble

Are you sure it's for the HRW?

Only assuming because its got the same icon as the heated screen button on all other cars I've owned. Captain James T's suggestion of heated mirrors would make sense though - didn't realise I had them.

on mine it heats the mirrors, also you can fit a hardtop with a glass screen and plug that into a socket, so you have a heated back window.

Mine has a glass heated screen in the soft top and it controls the mirrors as well.
I suspect the mirrors may also be thermostatically controlled.

I have a hard top, must put on soon!

Forgot about the hard tops too! Bit too much of a commitment for me - some of the best top down days of the year are in winter! (If you've got a warm hat wink)

As above. The button is there for the wingmirror heaters. My drivers-side packed up recently but having it sorted has been invaluable to me on my all-weather commute.

P.S. I have an '04 model glass window top fitted to my '02 and the rear screen heating element just pugged straight into the socket which is there as standard on all 986 models (for those that want to use hard tops).
