Picked up a copy of CAR as I was bored and there was an article on page 14 (Jan '13 issue) about a mid-engined junior supercar to rival the Ferrari 458 and McLaren 12C. Apparently it will fit in between the 911 Turbo and 918 in the Porsche line up. 0-60 in 2.5 seconds, 4 wheel drive and a mid-mounted flat 8 engine sound interesting!

Am I going mad or did 960 stories do the rounds some time ago as a totally different sort of car?

There has been a fair few threads on this...

It sounds like badge engineering on the next generation of Audi R8 - which isn't a surprise.

I am interested if it is more 'sporty' that the R8 and looks like a Porsche but I have my concerns.

Could it really compete with the likes of the F458? I am not so sure but I am waiting to see.

And, if it can't, I hope it comes in reasonably cheaper!

Apparently it will be built off a modular platform for mid-engined cars that will serve everything from entry level Porsches to a V12 Lamborghini.

CAR estimate (based on what?!) a £200k price tag that would make it £21k and £24k more than the 458 and C12 respectively!

I thought P had said they were not going ahead with this and GT2 filled the gap.

Will be good if they do, enough diesel and hybrid Porsches.

Pistonheads got the the scoop from the horses mouth:

"We have always a lot of ideas, at the moment I think this is a good idea but it's not the near future. We've just launched a new 991. Now we have Boxster and Cayman, then we have 911 variants, turbo, GT3 and so on, then the 918 next year. I think we have so many sports cars now that we don't have any need for a model above the 911 GT2 though."
