So I took the plunge last year and bought a 997.2 C2 to be my daily driver, at the time I did have a second car, but when there is a choice between a Porsche and well, something not so good, then there's really no choice...

Anyway, it got me to wondering about how many miles people clock up in their Porsche's

I use my car as my DD, it takes me to work, out at the weekends, on holiday etc, but the odo seems to have taken on a life of its own and I've somehow clocked up 20,000 miles in the last year (which is actually a bit higher than I was doing before).

I can imagine there must be some Porsche's out there with truly galactic mileages, so how many miles do your drive?
Do you resell your car when the mileage gets past a certain point? If yes, when?
Do you only buy low mileage cars?

I have to admit, I think I'd find it impossible to have one and not drive it every time, the idea of a garage queen (if i had a garage...) isn't really what I wanted to experience but I'm interested to see what others do, since there are a lot of posters on here with a lot of gorgeous fast metal.

My 02 Boxster has over 262K miles. It will be 13 years old next month. That works out to 23.8K miles per year on average. (In this same time frame I owned a 2002 VW Golf TDi which I sold with over 120K miles on it, and a 2006 GTO which I sold with nearly 40K miles on it.)

My 03 Turbo has over 102K miles on it, 90K miles I added from June 2009 to present. This averages out to 2100 miles per month.

Change the oil/filter every 5K miles, take care of the little things as well as the big things, and drive the car. They are built to be driven, not stared at. Well, check that: they are stared at by other drivers as the car goes down the road.

I'm ashamed to say 997 gt3 which I got in May this year and have covered 575 miles, 70 of which were driving home from the dealer.

Next year I am definitely going to make better use of it.

What a waste!

I don't understand owners with this type of financial commitment who don't drive the bloody thing!

To busy working and time with family as well as training for a couple of fights this year has left me short on me time.

Well let me keep the battery topped up then!

I don't have much time, travel a lot but still managed 6000 miles in my C2S.

Too much work and not enough play......... wink

If you could own one, even for limited use, why wouldn't you?

I bought my GT3 in August and have done about the same 500 to 600 miles if that.

I'm just always busy. I work long hours during the week so I have the weekend to cram in fun, diy, gardening, wifey time and using my other toys.

I'd like to use the car more but it doesn't really bother me that I don't, because that's just how life goes. At least I'm lucky enough to have realised the dream and have it sitting in the garage for the days I do get time. smile

I've done 80,000 in my 997 C4S.

I'll keep racking up the mileage now as despite regular servicing etc it seems that general consensus in the market is that my car is worth about £20k, so it's not worth selling.

For some, a nice sports car is a trophy. Not for me though - I like to lower the cost per mile by driving a lot. smile

Mine gets driven almost every day, if only to the station and back. Previous Boxster only got driven about twice a month. If there is one downside to driving it regularly, it's that it feels a bit less special.

Had a 997 C2S for six months this year, in which time I did 20k miles. Nearly all of them flat out and every single one of them were a joy. In September I bought a GT3 and I've covered 5k in it already.

All my miles are pure pleasure. I wouldn't dream of going to work in it. But I only average about 8000 miles a year. But saying that, I'd love to do some kind of European tour in it, and that would add a few miles. It does seem ridiculous though that a lot of people are worried about putting too many miles on their cars.

8.5k in 6 months in the Cayman, expect to put 60k over 3 years on it, one of the biggest mistakes I made with previous Porsches was not to use them and I am enjoying this one more than any other because I am using it more, IMHO.

bought my low(ish) mileage turbo a few weeks back and have commuted it in stop start (1.5 hrs to do 18miles) traffic every day. on friday i am doing a quick 1200 mile euro hoon to the ring and stuttgart, these cars are not an investment and i may die tomorrow

I did 70k miles in my old Cayman and have already done 8k miles in the 996 GT3 that I bought in April.

They are such special cars that its just criminal not to use them.

Bought my 993 in march 12 and have just realised I have gone over the 7k mark. A lot of these are from just two trips to Europe in the first 3 months of ownership.

I intentionally bought one with over 100k on the odometer as I didn't want to spend my time clock watching and not enjoying the car. . . Which I love

Last year I spent 193 days away from home, I don't use my car to get back and forth to work so it's just for pleasure when I am home and I managed to do approximately 6000 miles.
