Wheelnut woes

Help! I took my 944 in to have a coupla new tires fitted. The guy at the tire place broke a couple of em n couldn't shift the rest. It appears that magnesium wheelnuts shouldn't b overtightened. Has anyone encountered this problem b4 and how did you resolve it. Getting the new nuts won't b a problem but the removal of the old ones needs todone 1st.
