Hi there,

My 2002 996 Carrera 4S mileage has risen from 62,000 to 66,000 since the last service 12 months ago. Mileage over next 12 months likely to be similar. Would it be foolish to leave the next service for another 12 months? What are the realistic likely consequences? (i.e. 2 year interval, 8,000 miles). I am just trying to keep servicing costs down. Car runs like a Swiss watch and burns no oil. Many thanks!

I get mine done each year and would recommend the same. If you have done belt and plugs you won't suffer much. Got to be worth clean oil though, surely?

Other than sticking to the schedule for resale I can't see there would be any problems delaying.

I get my turbo done annually, regardless of mileage. Think I only did about 6k last year, because I had a second car.

Another for the yearly service, regardless of miles. If you had a major last time then I'd go for an oil change. Its exactly what I am doing on my 997 come March.

Oil and filter at least.
Its the life blood of your engine.

At resale time it will keep the buyers happier.

Indeed, plus the correct schedule for an early car specifies that if under 9,000 miles pa all that's required is an "Annual Check" which is similar to an MOT test and fluid level check (i.e. no parts replaced), on the proviso that the oil is changed before 12,000 miles, so from the original post (4,000 mile pa) the correct thing to do is an Annual Check now then a service next year.

I have exactly the same situation with mine. Mileage is now around 75k, it was last serviced January 2012 @ 70k, which was a huge service.

I think i will get my local Indy to do an annual check and also just change the oil and filter, oil seems cheap enough maintenance to me on such an expensive engine!

Get it serviced for the sake of £300 odd quid. Why cut corners?

Leave it for another year if you want, but have a look at the 'froth in the filler neck' threads first.

Minor service every year with a major every other is my view for low annual mileage cars ... Like mine wink

TX.

Me too, and any extra work required by a trusted indie.

I would leave it another year. A bit of extra moisture and wear in the oil will be fine.

I mean, these engines are bullet proof, right? whistle
