I am thinking a well specced Carrera S, 2007 with 25-30k miles.

What else is crucial spec wise and anything to look out for?

I paid recently £35k for a 30k mile 55 plate C4S convertible manual from a top indi with good warranty, with almost every extra available bar ceramic brakes. Not to everyone's tastes I know. If I was deciding again I'd prob go for a gen 2 as I didn't realise how poor the fuel economy is on the old 3.8 & it's my only car. I wouldn't recoup the difference but I'd have the newer model & PCM3.

I'd try and find the extra & get a Gen.2 997 or look for a mint 996t which has been well maintained, for £35k, he should find a 'minter'. I've had both, and they're brilliant cars. IMHO.
Nice looking 996t for sale just under budget: http://www.christopherjacksonltd.com/vehicle.asp?i...

If he was a friend I'd tell him to stump up some more and get a Gen 2 car. It's probably another £10k for an S though.

Sort out what kind of gearbox he wants, choose colours to suit, satnav and get the PSE. Lady park and memory seats might be worth considering. Get a stock one so he can get Porsche warranty for Gen 1 car.

Really? I thought the mpg was very good compared to my 996.

I do 70 miles a day - 1 mile residential, 7 miles 40-50mph urban dual carriageway with fair traffic but not start stop & a few roundabouts, and 27 miles of fairly busy mway 80-90mph. Get 20MPG-24MPG. Best I've had on a long run on Mway is 24MPG. My 2.7 Boxster was more like 30mpg on comparible run. I'd expect the gen 2 3.8 to get more like 30mpg. Sorry didn't want to hijack the thread but the limited range is actually really annoying more so than the expense, I'm just glad I didn't buy the Vantage or R8 for this reason alone, having to stop for fuel every 4 days gets tiresome

I don't understand how that is possible, even at 65-70 with cruise controll on it only creeps up to 26-27 and that soon drops down with any sort of enthusiastic driving, I have a 2006 C4S 3.8, what do you have?

On a run all motorway can see 30-31mpg on my C2S, but I generally average 18mpg. biggrin

Average speed was 62mph, I wasn't going particularly fast on the motorway so had to drive fairly briskly to maintain the speed average cross country.

It was in my econo-Carreramera wink

Contrary to what I think your opinion is, sometimes a car is quite useful in transporting people from a to b and then reasonable economy is quite useful wink

Good suggestion about the Cayman - I am not sure he is looking for the GT3 experience.

Late afternoon/early evening on the M1/M25/M23 down to Brighton so not much chance to put your foot down and average speed cameras on the M23/A23 too. Also had had it only for a week so was being a little gentle! Since then 22/24...

A large portion (presumably half of the production) were tiptronic and as such less desirable.

It's a pretty late model low mileage 'S' though. Doesn't seem too bad to me (although I'm not a big fan of CF).
Agree, I don't think it's what the OPs friend is looking for though.
