997 GT3 RS (Gen 2) Tyre advise

Hi All,
Could anyone using a Gen 2 RS for regular road use advise me on the best tyres to replace the original cups with please, sizes are as follows :-
Front's 245/35 zr 19
Rears 325/30 zr19

The car is still under warranty so am I correct in thinking they will need to be N rated ?

I don't personally drive a GT3 but from my own experience of using my Cayman S as a daily and also from comments from GT3 owners on here, Michelin Pilot Sports appear to be one of the favourites.

Yes they will need to ne N rated otherwise I would have suggested Michelin Pilot Super Sports which are even better but not N rated yet.

The only "N" rated tyre available is the Michelin Cup. Continental have the same size and are available but are equivalent to the Cup tyre. Michelin Super Sports which is a touring tyre by comparison are available in USA but are still not “N” rated. I think a lot of us would really like the SS tyre to be made available in UK. Unfortunately Porsche have not signed them off in Europe as yet.

Just stick Supersports on and bks to them. I have them on my RS and for the type of use it gets they are ideal.

Incidentally when I bought I had the 111 point check done by porsche, they flagged the Non N rated tyres but said it wouldn't stop them putting a warranty on.

I've been running Conti Sport Contacts on my 997 GT2 and really rate them. They work well on road and track but don't like standing water. In dry hot conditions Michelin Cups work better however if the temp is lower and it's damp the Contis work very well. They are also resonable value compared to cups.

Thanks to all for your suggestions, I would like to replace the cups with something that is more user friendly in the wet/standing water.
I will look into the supersports, if I decide to go this route does anyone know any decent tyre fitters in Hertfordshire that are able to handle centrelocks?
I would like to get my local OPC to fit them, but as they are not N rated I doubt they would!

I'd suggest these guys too, in Chesham. Found there tyre prices hardly any different to Micheldever on the last set of Michelins. Plus they don't mark the rims.

Another +1 for the Michelin Pilot Super Sports. Perfect for the weather in this country. My OPC would not fit them for me HOWEVER they do not worry that they are fitted if warranty work is required. I have also heard of one OPC fitting them. Not sure which though. One thing the MPSS has over the normal "N" rated tyre is a whopping great rim protector which will protect your rim against the kerb.

I have looked into the supersports as suggested, the only problem is they don't
come in the correct size, standard as supplied with the car are,
Rear 325/30/19
Front 245/35/19
Does anyone know if I could use 305/30/19 and 235/35/19 as per 997 RS Gen 1 ?

You probably could, but not a good idea at so many levels.

BTW I believe the size for winter tyres is 295/30 R 19

Nope - not N unless this is brand new hot off of the press information. Neither are the Continental ContiForceContact or Dunlop Sportmaxx Race (which do at least come in the sizes). The only Pirellis were the never available Corsa System as far as I know - none of the others came with the rear sizes as I understand it.

305/30R19 will certainly fit okay. Not sure whether the 235s might be ever so slightly stretched on the fronts though (they are usual fit for 8.5 rims rather than the 9s that you have, but I reckon that they would be okay).

Note on the SuperSports - they do make 325s. However, anecdotal evidence so far is that they are only actually on sale in the US, so you would have to order your rears from there and have them shipped back.

WTF would you want to put 305s on when it came with 325s ?

How difficult is it to email tirerack in the US, give them a credit card number and get a cheap set of 325 Supersports shipped over ?

I could easily get some supersports shipped over, the issue is that they are not n rated as I explained in my previous posts, although I am worried about the warranty I am more concerned about getting a puncture when I am away in Europe, calling Porsche assistance for help and being left stranded because I don't have n rated tyres, even if they would help, where would I find a replacement rear supersport as they are only available in the States.
Maybe I should just stick with cups, but that would bring me back to my original problem of the cups not being very good in the wet/standing water.

I have never had so many problems trying to sort out a set of tyres, and just to make it a little harder, I've also got the centrelock issue to contend with !!
