993 sports exhaust that will pass track day limits
Discussion
Looking for a sports exhaust for my impending 993
Found this thread from way back: http://www.pistonheads.co.uk/gassing/topic.asp?t=2...
Also on the wiki here, but only one 993 entry for a turbo.... http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=3&a...
Can anyone add their experience, recommendations or links to other threads? I'd like like something pretty loud, but that will meet 103dB limit at Bedford Autodrome and doesn't drone. I previously had a DesignTek Sport (as opposed to Supersound) on my 996 C4S, was pretty good but easily met track day limits so probably would have gone for the supersport in hindsight.

My 3.0SC records c.101db static with a set of SSI heat exchangers and a single exit silencer. I'd have thought you'll be marginal to keep below 103 with a sports exhaust on an air cooled 911.

Air-cooled noob question: are they that much louder than the water-cooled engines?!Mario149 said:

Do what I did. Original silencers sent off to Gert in Belgium, for the RSR effect. He had them less than a week and they sound absolutely fab. Car sounds like its doing 50 at standstill now. Replaced the heat shields whilst the silencers were off also.
Better than an aftermarket IMO and not too loud. Well worth the cost and nice bloke.

Presumably he is this website: http://www.carnewal-europe.com/main.htm. If so, sounds good. Did you manage to pass track day noise limits with them?Car sounds like its doing 50 at standstill now. Replaced the heat shields whilst the silencers were off also.

Thats the one.Not done a track day, the conversion alters the sound (makes the engine sound more powerful) and makes it only a little louder without becoming to noisy or boomy. .... It's a lovely sound and not dare I say Chav like.
I'm sure I read on the Carnewal site that people have not had issues at tracks, and that doesn't suprise me.

Gert just emailed me back saying they've done over 500 conversions and no-one has ever mentioned having issues at track days. Looks like he'll be getting my custom Not done a track day, the conversion alters the sound (makes the engine sound more powerful) and makes it only a little louder without becoming to noisy or boomy. ....
