Time has come for me to sell my 996 Turbo S.

I had a remap and sports exhaust done by DMS during my ownership, and want to know the general consensus on "modified" cars and their sale-ability?

Am I more likely to find a buyer by leaving the DMS map on, or should I get it put back to standard?

Everything else is completely standard on the car and it has a full Porsche history (at the moment, not been serviced since remap)

Opinions please.........

Professionally done like you say, I'd see it as a bonus! If I was buying a Turbo, I'd be fettling with it, so if its already done and done properly I'd be happy to buy it. smile

A big bonus for me, i am looking to buy at the moment and would rather have the work already done (as long as its backed up by a top tuner).
However, dont expect to get a premium for it, and some folks are fickle and want totally factory standard wink

Hmm.

A read through of threads here would suggest the only cars considering for purchase were loaded with every available extra at purchase, have only been run gently down to the golf course by an aged gentleman once a week, are absolutely bog-standard, have experienced fastidious maintenance by the local OPC (or possibly one of a short list of recognised independent companies), and might possibly have got as far as the car-park adjacent to the members stand at a racetrack.

Good luck with the sale. I'd price it as standard, and recognise you have a much more limited market.

As above.

So long as it's been done by a reputable group and the car has good history and paperwork to back it all up I'd see it as bonus.

I bought mine with a remap already installed and it was one of the things which I saw as a bonus about that particular car.

But I know of at least one other 996tt owner on here who see's any mods as a massive no no for re-sale...............Come on Leigh, defend yourself laugh

I think we can be fairly sure that it will produce both effects.

Some will see it as a bonus and may be seeking such a car and some will run a mile as they will think its been ragged or they just want a standard car.

The question is, which group of buyers is larger? My guess is the latter.

Glad to hear there are people out there who see it as a bonus, I wont be expecting a premium price for sure, but do think (or hope) that it is now a car in the reach of a larger percentage of people who crave the performance, not just the prestige.

Depends on the value of the car.

I'd never consider buying a 'tuned' Aston for example, but some do.

I've 'tuned' my RS6's and some Diesels through DMS and they have been great, but wouldn't purchase a high end sports car that's out of warranty that's been fettled by ythe owner.

I would not touch it. I do not like modded cars of any make.

map & exhaust by a respect company would be a bonus for me. All other things being equal between 2 cars I'd opt for the one with these mods ( as in reality I'd be getting them done myself anyway so effectively saves £3K )

Might be biased though as I have previously had a DMS map & sports exhaust 996 turbo & it was fantastic

I had my car mapped and am very happy with it. Slightly ironic, but I'm not sure I'd want to buy a mapped car though - would prefer stock for something I was buying. I avoided modded cars when I was shopping, and I suspect I still would even though I've had mine modded.

I think this is a spot on analysis but the conclusion you would then come to should lead you to removing the DMS map and returning it to stock.

As a buyer I would definitely be upset if I found out subsequently that the car I had just bought had run at much higher levels of tune for a period of it's life, especially if I was one of those in the second group who look for completely unmolested examples. Buyers of that ilk will run a mile if they think they're being misled.

Be as honest as you can, price it as standard and you'll be good i reckon

IMO significant extra strain on the engine (without increased cooling) and on the drivetrain, on a car that's already stupidly quick. It'll lead to consumables such as brakes/clutch/fuel/suspension and insurance etc all costing more.
No chance of a Porsche warranty.
And also leads me to think it's being ragged as you don't deem the current (enormous) performance envelope of the car sufficient for your needs.

I wouldn't buy it.

+1 for buying a good one with proper mods done right. i opted for my turbo as it had lots of history over the past 2yrs with 9excellence with a stage 2 uprgade and fabspeed exhaust now. beyond a map and exhaust id still buy it but would limit the market further right? that said a buyer coming from a rice rocket will love the more mods the merrier right

Maybe on a remapped Renault, but a 100BHP workover on a Mezger six would be well within it's (significant) limits.

People don't like the idea that its been remap years ago and thrashed about in.

If its only been done a year or so that's good news.

Whilst it's a pretty standard upgrade "orginal" non messed with will sell better. Even if the new owner wants to go to DMS!

Wouldn't want to buy it personally, unless I knew you and trusted you as a seller.

As a previous poster said, I would bet good money that the larger market are people like me, albeit ones who don't look at Pistonheads and just want security and peace of mind.
