I would suggest its not the car owners house.

Why do people do it?

Can't get me head round it, wouldn't be so bad if they actually looked like what they are supposed to be.

The 959 is something else. WTF!!

To be fair, the 2nd GT1 looks pretty good...

I don't know what they are retailing for at the moment but aren't they selling at around $1M?

If you can build a copy, with a Porsche as a base (I hear some use Boxsters) then I can understand why someone would spend say $40k (guess) to do it.

To be fair, wasn't MrB's 962 effectively 'a copy', just a very good one? No one really put that down, though some people were noting it maybe shouldn't have been called a Porsche.

Ripping off a 911 when they can be picked up for 10k seems pointless but these cars that are worth say $1M I 'get'.

There was a guy who looked after a number of 911 GT1s, so had a lot of spares, body moulds etc and he reckoned he could build one 'identical' for $100k-ish (though this was a few years ago). I guess engine/ 'box specs may vary but the front half of the chassis would have been 993 and the rest a spaceframe, identical to the real car, with identical bodywork and Porsche mechanicals - what would we consider that?

I'd say it was the GT1 version of MrB's 962 and that is not a put down in any way, shape or form. Are crashed cars not Porsches anymore? When do some of these cars with damage or 3rd party updates become Trigger's Broom?

That's probably gone a bit off topic...

LOL - too quick at skimming! Sorry frown

Rest of my post still stands - there are some really good copies out there... But maybe they are 'tributes'?
