997 newbie, exhaust/wheel help please
Discussion
Hi all,
I've recently bought my first Porsche (05 997 Carrera). I've already fallen in love with the car but just two things id like to do to the car is fit turbo wheels and a sport exhaust. The car has one year of a porsche warranty remaining so i'm hoping to keep this intact by purchasing OE parts. Are these available for the 997 non sport/turbo model.
Please excuse my lack of technical expertise, if anybody could give me a simple bit of guidance i'd really appreciate it.

I would have thought that any OPC would be happy to supply and fit a genuine Porsche sports exhaust for a price.
'Turbo' wheels could be tricky: the turbo cars are wide body so probably the wrong off-set for a Carrera 2. They'll be 19", & may be wider. However any OPC should be able to tell you what's available . Your current wheels will have their width and off-set cast onto them so you'll be able to arm yourself with that information at least.

Porsche Apart are worth a try for the wheels but as already mentioned the off sets may be all wrong

Not necessarily, unfortunately. Apologies if my previous post was misleading with the use of the word 'aftermarket'. The problem is this wording from the policy exclusions section: "The Vehicle has been modified in a manner not formally approved by Us or the Manufacturer". This could be interpreted to include Porsche/OEM parts not designed/type approved for the particular model.
E.g. If I were to put 997.2 GT3 radiator mesh over my 997.1 GT3 radiators that would void the warranty. Another example would be if I were to replace my GT3's front splitter and rear wing with those from a Turbo say, that would also void the warranty. Carrera wheels on a GT3... Most likely void the warranty too.

If you look in your handbook it will tell you the various wheel size options together with offset and width. For example 10J X H2 ET65. The offset is the distance inboard between the wheel mounting face and the centre line of the wheel.
If your car says an ET of 65mm for a 10J rim and you put on wheels with an ET of 47mm then the outer face of the wheel/tyre will be moved 18mm further outwards (65 - 47 = 18mm). This change might be OK for a 9J rim but for a 11J rim it could make the tyre wall stand proud of the bodywork.
Decreasing the ET from 65 to 47 will also have the effect of increasing track width by 36mm ( 2X (65 -47) = 36mm)). Track widths are also given in the handbook.
