Prospective first time 996 C4 cab owner here, been talking myself out of it for a very long time,( usual stuff, nothing wrong with what I already have, a 996 could be financially ruinous, other things to spend money on etc) , but now I've seen the light and I'm looking for one. I've seen one that was initially registered in Cyprus, but the 1st service was done in the UK at about 6k miles. Are there any differences in build spec between a car built for the UK or a car built for somewhere like Cyprus, e.g. underseal treatment and the like? Should I worry that the car has been an import? It is being sold by a reputable indy dealer and is in excellent condition.

There seem to be quite a number of Cyprus cars in the uk. If I remember correctly, it used to be much cheaper to buy them there and import them to the uk.

How times change.

It used to be the case that it was trickier to get non C16 cars insured here because the alarms weren't Thatcham approved. I suspect that as the values have fallen so much it's less of a problem now but it might pay to check before pushing the button.

Cheers guys, I seem to remember a lot of vehicles coming in via Cyprus at that time, and I'm sure it has something to do with either tax advantages or price differences. At the time a lot of vehicles ( and probably still do) had wildly differing pre tax prices, depending upon the local area purchase tax,For example, Denmark has an alarming rate of tax on cars, as a result, manufacturers have to have really low prices to offset this.It can make the import of one attractive as you only then pay the local rate.
