996 Turbo tyre size/choice

In the hunt for new front tyres (and rear ones soon too). Currently on the front are 225/40, but put my reg in Blackcircle search engine to check prices. It came up with 235/40 on the front??? What is the right size.......
Currently i've Bridgestone S02 all round which i think are a bit pants in the wet. Thinking of Michelins next.
Any consensus as to whats the best to go for??

On 18s Michelin PS2s are your best bet.
You can run 235 on the front but need 315/30 on the back to match the rolling radius.

No experience with Michelin tires on the Turbo, but on the Boxster they are very good tires. If there's any better tire it would have to wear a Superman outfit.

I've run Bridgestone and Continental on the Turbo and both brands of tires have been quite acceptable. I didn't think the tires lacked for anything.

But the word all over the web and what I get from my Porsche dealer contacts is Michelin tires are the best so if you can find the right size tires -- avoid tires that venture off the tire/wheel combos Porsche supports or you can do damage to the viscous coupling or upset PSM or some other electronic nanny -- get them and be happy.

The OE sizes are 225/40/18 and 295/30/18, I don't believe that there is any tangible reason to deviate from these sizes. Michelin PS2 are generally regarded as the best tyre in these sizes and are N rated (if you care about that). I ran then on my 996t and was very happy with them.

I am looking for some new rears for my 996 Turbo, so what' the best tyres, and where to get them!?

I have Bridgestone Potenzas on at the moment, so are Michelin PS2's better?

What do you have on the fronts? Best to keep them the same all round. I have PS2's (a very popular choice). Had my rears replaced by Chris at Exel Wheels.

Short of supersports - not for 996 sizes - PS2 are the best choice. Match tyres but no need for matching N front to rear.

I have Bridgestone Potenzas all round, why does no one mention these when talking about replacements, is general opinion of them that low ? Had Bridgstone on my VX220 and were very good!

sourced some Bridgestone Potenza 295/30/18 SO2's for £245.00 inc fitting, seems reasonable, is this good?

Yeah same problem. Put my Reg in a Tyre search engine and it comes up with 235 at the front but my car is fitted with 225s .

Costco have bridgestone Potenzas in 225 for £110 each which is good. I'll stick with them. Decent enough and got 15,000 miles out of them which is good for a Turbo.

Yup, that mistake caused me to order 235s in error.

Definitely 225 unless you also up the size of the rears to 315.

I had both Bridgestone S02 and Michelin PS2 on standard size and rims and I prefer the PS2.

I did not feel much differences on hot, dry day with road surface temperature at 20C+. However, I find the S02 is noticeably worse on cold or damp day with cold tyres - not much grip and a bit snappy to drive. Currently on S02 and with cold morning/evening temperature, I find the S02 takes a good 15-20 mins to get some heat into the side-wall for a more compliant ride and for some grip.

Going to change back to PS2 N4 at Costco next.
