987.1 Boxster S Tiptronic

This light came on this morning after starting the engine and putting it into D. It ran slightly rough to my ears. No metallic sounds, just sluggish.

Switched engine off. Waited a couple of minutes and started again. No warning lights, sounded normal again. Made a short trip to oarents' house (1 mile) and it ran as normal.

If it happens again I will take it to the OPC, but does anyone have any ideas what it could be in the meantime?

I don't know if it's related, but the temperature dropped quite suddenly last night. The car lives in an underground car park and is generally used on weekends only.

Any input much appreciated.

Thanks

K

It could be any number of things but if it doesn't occur again and there doesn't appear to be any adverse effects I'd be tempted to forget about it until its due its next service.

I had this same problem on my gen 2 boxster.

Engine was sounding strange and car seemed to be rocking a little more at idle, as if the engine was struggling.

car was taken to OPC via Porsche assist and found nothing wrong with it, it never happened again in the remaining 2 years of ownership.

I neighbour of mine had same message on his Gen1 carried on driving it and then needed a new engine, OPC would not honour warranty as driver had ignored the message.

Haha... Oh dear, sounds like it could go either way then! I've done some more driving today and it seems fine. It's out of warranty so if it goes wrong I'll have to just bite the bullet. It had a major service last summer and was proclaimed to be in good health, except for a few minor things like rads and spark plugs which were replaced.

Someone said something about cold temperatures and infrequent use making the oil more viscous until it warms up. Any truth in that?

The cold weather will certainly make the oil thicker but so long as its the correct viscosity it shouldn't have any adverse effects other than maybe making the engine crank more slowly.

Thanks for the replies. It had a full set of new coil packs during its major service less than a year ago. Old ones were indeed completely knackered, but even before they were changed I never had this error.
