With all GT3s : the rules are the same.
1. Must have buckets
2. Must not have the aircon deleted unless you plan to keep it for the rest of your life or are getting a huge discount

Other than that, it depends if you expect to track it. If so, Clubsport is ideal but if not you will want a half cage and harnesses. Also - if it will be tracked you don't want ceramics (Alcon, Performance Friction or Brembo motorsport disks are the preferred options).

I would say that club sport is not essential on a 997 GT3 which is a rather more usable car than a 996.
But worth more and easier to sell on. The seats alone were a £3100 option. Looks the part too.

PCM2 is desirable, ceramics are brilliant unless you are buying/want a track warrior, no dust, fantastically powerful but delicate at trundling speeds. Worth nearly 6 grand new so you're getting a bargain second hand.

Michelin sports cups are standard but really not worth it. Expensive, potentially dangerous when well worn and little better than PS2s or others in grip terms.

Sports chrono is b....cks , but they all have it, set up is important and you should get it checked out by someone who knows what they're doing asap.

If a weekend drive try a clubsport, otherwise for a daily go with Sport adaptive seats. PCM would be on the list for me too.

Clubsport
Fixed buckets
Painted center consul
Front lift if its a Gen 2 car

Dynamic engine mounts
leather interior ( dash and door panels )
Sat nav

I have all the above on mine , the first group i would say are " mandatory " the second group nice to haves .The leather does spruce up what can be a rather basic interior .

I also added things like cruise for the roadworks average speed cameras but these are just a matter of personal taste .

I dare you to tell the difference between a car with engine mounts and one without.

Doh! Of course. wink

The OP is looking at gen1 cars so lifting not an option. Nor engine mounts

Leather on the dash is nice as is a painted centre console but neither's an essential. Sound package is better than stock but not by much. Better to get something after market if you want to hear the sounds.

Beside the point as it's gen1 cars we're talking about but the folding buckets are the seats to go for on a gen2. Just about as grippy as the fixed buckets but wider and of course allowing easier access to the rear for the squashy bags

My next daily driver will be a 997Mk1 clubsport. No extras. The Pasm will get buried at sea and I'll fit a decent set of passive dampers... Perfect daily driving tool.

Depends on your intended use

For regular road use I'd want 'comfort' spec - with all the options and adaptive sports seats

As a 'toy', then probably Club Sport spec with the buckets

Either way I'd definitely want PCCBs (unless I was using it mostly on track).

I would say must have are comfort seats. If you want fixed buckets for only weekend use buy a 7RS then. Don't understand the point of buying plain jane GT3 for those circumstances. GT3 is for more regular use so buy seats that you can use more comfortably and regularly. That's what I have done......

There is little difference between the stock GT3 and the RS. A club sport with a cage and harnesses will drive very similarly to the RS. RS has a wider bum, bigger wing and most importantly a single mass flywheel but they have identical outputs.
Personally I find the turn in a little better on the RS but a stock GT3 plays the weekend racer just as well for £20k less.

Don't agree. RS still faster anyway you cut it, if you want ultimate w/e toy. You'll easily spend 15-20k to make the GT3 as fast as RS so why not buy real thing.... So buy the GT3 for daily use! and with comfort seats!!
