Hi there

A question, I am potentially grabbing some spare ceramic disc but they came originally from 997 CUP, so are motorsport version, I've also been offered some by a 997.2 Turbo owner as well.

My original plan was just to use my hats for the new front disc, but as my car is a C2S with PCCB upgrade its front hat only has 10 of the bobbins/bolts holding on the disc. Wheras the larger 380mm Turbo/CUP have 12 bobbins/bolts holding the disc to the hat. So using my hats simply won't work I'd have thought.

So the question is are all the hats across the different Porsche models same offset? If the offset is the same then it will work fine, I just need to use the caliper spacers which Porsche can sell me as they event have a retro-fitting procedure.

Problem is if the hats have different offsets then they simply won't work for me.

So does anyone know if the hats are different offsets or what offset my C2S is for the hats and what the turbo/cup offsets are?

I've asked Porsche and they don't have actual offset information to hand, just that they can supply me the brackets for the calipers, so its a long shot, but just maybe someone here will know the anwser and if they work then I can grab these PCCB's as spares. smile

expert!... lol.. the only fields I'm an 'expert' in is hand relief & losing my temper....

i'll summon a genuine expert for you & ask fioran0..

you will have to use the bells that come with the 380mm discs.. never seen a Cup car running ceramic rotors though, but I have seen SuperCup cars with them.. like I said I'll ask Neil.

I can measure the hat offsets on a set I just happen to have sitting on my dining room table. Quite why they're on the table I have no idea lol.

Short answer until I get on a computer:
Turbo and GT3/Cup use differing offsets.
Only a few years of supercup used pccb, if they came off a race car they are likely spent. Weigh them and check against new weight stamped on the hats. Post up and ill tell you. Visual inspection is worthless beyond telling you if discs are broken or have bad fiber burn.
Fitting these to your car will screw your bias and ABS. How do you plan on addressing. You can't run offset pad combos as its pccb
You will already have too much brake for your c2s on street tyres with your current setup. Are you getting fade with your pccb?
Since you do track days, ditch the pccb and fit steels.
Buy some bbs e88s or other light wheel and you will claw back any weight you add back.

Some good advice.

I nearly went to steels, am I right in thinking to do it I just need 997.1 Turbo front and rear steel disc. I am told I can use my ceramic pads with steels until they are gone as it is fine that way round. Just never use steel pads with ceramic disc.

The disc on visual inspection look fine and are full thickness, I can give you the part numbers if you want them Forian to properly identify if they are compatible.

On track I have never had fade with my current setup, its absolutely perfect! smile
I love the ceramics but at the same time I don't want to destroy another set from hitting track too hard hence why a spare set was tempting, but I might just do as you say, plonk steels in as the Turbo steel disc are mega cheap from OPC. smile

How would one go about weighing a 10kg thing to such a small tolerance?

On a digital scale that can measure in grams, tenths of grams is even better though.

Well yeah, but where do you get a 0.1g resolution up to 10kgs?

Clealry using a decent set of scales...

Weighing them will show the level of oxidation that cannot be seen at the surface as the oxidised matter is less dense. We have PCCB's off our GT3 here that look great but are underweight - they are scrap. Measuring the thickness to determine life is about as much use as tits on a fish....

Clearly indeed. Sigh. But where would one get such a set of scales?

I think you can credit me with enough intelligence to know that to weigh a 10kg thing to 0.1g I'd have to put them on a decent set of scales with a 10kg range and 0.1g resolution.

Anywhere that sells bench scales for industrial applications will have something.
Tbh if its just for home checking, Argos etc have cheap 10kg digital scales that measure in 2g increments. That will be close enough to let you check. You can deal with the more accurate one when you get close.

Maybe you can come up with a story and take them to the post office smile

does OPC have the ability to do this?

They can fit and supply the brackets if the offset is right yes. But there system does not give them the offets for the different hats unfortunately.

Why don't you just put steels on there? Far better for a variety of reasons already if you are tracking. A lot simpler and more economical solution I would have thought.

True, think I need to check exactly what I need which I think is just 997.1 turbo disc all round and see how it feels. I am just worried the added unsprung weight will be quite noticable. At which point I suspect I end up doing as Florien suggest and fit some lightweight 18" wheels and track tyres. biggrin
