Help needed for a Dennison Gateway user.

I have a Dennison Gateway on my PCM 2.1 (997 with Bose), and apparently I need to update both PCM and AMP software in order to run the latest 2012 Nav DVD.
I contacted Dennison support, asking if the Gateway would be unaffected, and to my amazement, their reply was that they didn't know...
When pushed, the reply was "probably!"
Has anybody here done this or able to give advice?
I'd rather stick with 2006 maps than brick my Gateway.
