Yum, what do these cost

For me, its a great feat to build you very own spec. Porsche 911.
But when the goal is achieved and the bills are all totted-up... You may have well bought a real classic RS or something that will be truly respected in the future. Whilst this is no doubt a true joy in its detail, it really is no more than a personal take on a retro-style 911. Probably done better than many, but with big bills to prove it.
I am sorry, but it would have to be the real thing for me at this sort of spend level... and the green? Mmmm.

The idea of having a 'bespoke' 911 that can do 0-60 in circa 5 seconds therefore keeping up with alot of modern machinery but yet with old school appeal i think is magic.
The suspension spec must have been phenomenal so to drive would be awesome .
I agree that most would take a 964 RS for its originality but I dunno it's way cheaper then a singer (I would assume) yet still delivers 320hp.
I'd have that before a GT3 of any description, all day long. but I would be in the minority.
The fact of the matter is, they appeal to a tiny minority, so I would never undertake a project such as this, huge money that is never ever recouped.
The 'beards' don't want it, Blasphemy.
Track day warriors don't want it. No wing or garish decals.
991 buyers don't want it. We won't go there.
Joe public don't want it. Don't get it.
I would want it. I would love it. The worry however, is who would you realistically sell it too at a later date ?. Also, the cost. No idea what it went for but circa £80k possibly ?.
Compare that to a Singer and is a bargain, but you would need to be prepared to hang on to it indefinitely.

And you'd need someone like Paul Stephens to sell it for you and relieve you of 10% plus VAT so as you say you'd have be thinking of keeping it. The fact of the matter is, they appeal to a tiny minority, so I would never undertake a project such as this, huge money that is never ever recouped.

Took Stephens a while to sell this one and it's immaculate and accurate

.. The Singer cars open @ $350K, up to $500K ..
Magnus Walkers cars are a lot less, but to 'do' a project car like Monkeys would be the thick end of £100K +VAT.
Something like this:
Donor car £15K
Engine £15K
Brakes £5K
Wheels £5K
Suspension inc struts/Farbs/Rarbs/droplinks £7K
Wiring loom £2K
Seats + harnesses £4K
Gearbox + rebuild £3K
Prep and paint £5K
Tyres £1K
Zorst £2K
100 hours labour to put it together £5K
25 hours to strip it £1.25K
That's £70K, then in my exp of a project car you expect to add £25K for bits you have forgotten, and upgrades you make along the way and that is about what it costs to finish it, by the time you have it on the road.., and then 20% VAT, so it could easily be £114K all up, and good luck to him as well, I've been thro' the same journey on my track car and I've felt the same pain ..!

The story continues in Part 3. The car was up for sale Aug 2008 apparently. He mentions he could have bought a new carrera for the price of the project - so 997 carrera @ £75k odd.

Agree with that Ratboy, apart from I'd at least double the suspension budget. Those WRC internalled dampers are silly money plus the time spent setting them up which I doubt he did himself with a spanner in one hand.

I'm sure £100k plus was bandied around at the time.
What is more worrying than the cost is that it couldn't have been everything he'd hoped for as he parted with it very soon after completion and I don't think he made money.
As someone has said originality is key at £100k for an old car. I'd have a GT3 of some sort for track work and a nice old pre impact car for sunny sunday pub lunch runs, with the other £40k-£45k.
Anyone know why shifted it on so quickly then? I bought the mag where he took it over to the ring but it snowed and I could never seem to find anything about the car or his impressions after that.
Kudos to him for having a go though. Must have been a nice journey.

Indeed, this has been for sale for eons, just checked, sure it was up for £80k earlier....limited market....very limited.

I like that car and yes it was up for 80 previously but it has competition from the green one at stephens that was up until 2 weeks ago offered at 52k but seems to have crept back up to 59.995 since it's magazine feature in GT Porschehttp://www.dkeng.co.uk/ferrari-sales/292/Prestige_...
Stephens more likely to sell a car like that than DK with all due respect to them.
They are more renowned for Italian cars. I collected my 355 from them and they have proper exotica in their showroom.
In orange the ST Rep from stephens gets my vote
