Hi all,

I'm looking to buy my first Porsche.
I like the 964 with a slight RS feel, teardrop mirrors, cup wheels and lowered.
Saw this one quite some time ago and fell in love www.autosalon-singen.de/en/fahrzeug22500072.html

I've got a maximum budget of 20k and would prefer silver, grey or black, and if possible with black interior.

I have see this car advertised, what are your honest opinions as it's at the very top of my budget?

Thanks for your advice or let me know if you've seen something for sale.

There has been a lot of threads on 964s recently so search will be your friend. You really need someone who knows what to look for to check it over as rust will usually be an issue. Plus pt is the rebuild but the "devil is in the detail " with those as well. There is mention of clutch , suspension and other components being refreshed recently which is a good thing for sure. Asking price seems reasonable in light of current 964 msrket activity and interest.

It's impossible to give an accurate appraisal from an advert. It looks nice, but the interior looks a little unloved.

A proper in depth inspection is the only way forward.

It's strong money but worth investigating further.

Looks very shabby inside IMO, albeit might just want a day fettling.
I think that is top dollar for a C4, & this one is overpriced
The C2 is more attractive proposition & with some hunting you'll pick one up for similar money.

As mentioned get inspected they can hide a lot of sins the 964 cars.

Looks nice on the outside, but agree with the comments on the interior. The seat of the passenger seat looks like it needs some attention

i sold my 964 for £11,000 last month, it was a peach. but when you scratch a little deeper with lesser 964's mine needed both front wings off and scuttle under windscreen repairing, so budget was around £2k at least to remedy this, then there were a few scabs here and there, so realistically a full paint job required.

mine was a tiptronic and i decided to replace it was a 996 turbo wwhich is a beast of a car and still gets used daily, love it.
good luck with your search and dont rule out tiptronic i had a lot of fun with mine.

Issues with the interior are the least of the probs with these cars.

I would reckon the opposite unless the op is looking specifically for a track car. Apparently there isn't much difference in handling between the c2 and c4, or least nothing that can't be sorted with a decent suspension set up. Plus when the weather is like it is at the moment it's a proper plus.

I found the differnce between C2 and C4 quite marked, C4 felt ponderous, steering was not as sharp, slower to pick up when you boot it, thought the extra 100+kgs did not help at all

The C2 is far more nimble, pointier, less understeer, more porsche e.

All wheel drive 911's are pointless IMO unless you got Turbo type power.
My GT2 was a handful with just rears driver her along, too much for a novice driver.

The 6T is set up nicely all wheel drive with a bias towards the rears.

Each to their own I guess. Tbh when I bought I wasn't too fussed either way, was really just looking for a more practical alternitive to the Tuscan as needed the extra seats. At the time the c4 represented better value so that's what I ended up going for. I've no intention of tracking it and to me it feels nimble enough and the 4wd is a benefit as I'm able to use it on days such as today!

+1 above. Lovely looking.

Also, a C4 964 very much makes sense. Old world rear suspension which was basically still on the 964, tamed (well pretty much so) by the four wheel drive. I've owned a C2, and if in the market again I would not be put off by being a C4. With modern suspension setup and most probs lightened with removal of rear seat etc etc, a C4 would make a fab B road 911, especially if you don't know the road.

To the OP. The silver 911 you linked to, its well overpriced. I would expect an excellent 964 which that one really is not. At that mileage, that is more than a C2 993. I know which I'd prefer. Though 964s are going up in value, I do not believe its quite as much as some suggest. Also, the later the 964 the better. It's a pretty early one.

Now then Ed, nothing wrong with a well set up C4 even in standard form. I'll let you have a drive of mine this summer and see if I can't change your mindbeer

If its as good as the description suggests then a dealer will have that and mark it up for 22k.
