996 Turbo heatshields missing!!

Changed my exhaust over today and the turbo heatshields are missing, previous owner had a performance exhaust on for the last 18 months so it looks like the heatshields haven't been put back on. Any idea if this could cause problems? I will order new ones in the meantime and get them fitted as soon as.

Well its not going to help if the intake absorbs the heat as it will reduce your power and anything near it over time might melt but not to serious if it's been okay for that long.Spoke to my friend who has worked for porsche for 11 years he said they are there for a reason so I said good point.
Personally I would put them back on, like I said previously if everything seems ok then you are lucky plus I would check the 02 sensor wires or anything that could have been effected.

BTW, I hope I'm wrong but given the cost of other hardware you may want to be sitting down when you get the price of the heat shields.
But regardless do not let this sway you from the important task of getting these fitted ASAP.

Can't think why anyone would not bother to refit them.

Potentially been badly corroded and rattling about in there when the new exhaust was fitted and they didn't bother to replace.. Very very common to be corroded and needing replacement,, also I would replace the 8 nuts with new ones as they don't last long in there due to the extreme temps etc...definitely get new shields on there as soon as you can though...
Make sure every nut is heated up to bright cherry red before removal as you don't want to break a stud in turbo

New stainless nuts fitted when I swapped exhausts. Will pickup new shields at the weekend, does the exhaust need to come back off to fit them?Make sure every nut is heated up to bright cherry red before removal as you don't want to break a stud in turbo

They fit over 3 of the turbocharger studs and are bolted to the oil catch tank, actually I think it was originally attached to catch tank with a stud and nut combo which had snapped, hence the stainless bolt in the pic.Here yer go...
From memory though, exhaust may need removing to get heat shield into position!

Yet again the bladdle siddle on top of the 2 speed wobble joint is at the wrong angle, keep telling you to sort it.

It is good then I was wrong and the shields are rather inexpensive.
However they should still be replaced. It is not like Porsche just tossed those on for looks.
