Has anyone heard of Targa Florio Cars ? They contacted me about marketing my 997 Gen2 Manual C4S (which I have up for private sale) on a sale or return contract. Has anyone had experience of them? Feel free to message (email) me if you prefer not to post.

Hey jilap

I went down there to buy an R8 last year. Place seems very nice and they have some good stock there. I would recommend him as a person to sell your car, not pushy, nice showroom and agreeable to deal with.

Haven't had any more experience than that, but seemed OK to me

Firstly, I have never had any dealings with this company and therefore my comments below have no reflection on Targa Florio Cars

On the subject of SOR, I would be wary given the horror stories such as "Verdi" and "Sean Lockyear" to name just a couple.

There are a number of businesses that are living on borrowed time using other companies/peoples cash.

I have heard of other specialists who hold onto their clients money once the car (on SOR) has sold and one chap had to involve his Lawyer before the dealer paid up.

Henry sums up the risks up nicely here http://www.911virgin.com/porsche/sellusyourcar/

Good stock but can be a little pushy from my experience, mate had a car on sale or return, didn't sell so after a few weeks he phoned up, hour later we collected the car no hassle.

I'm not saying any thing specifically about the dealer in OP. . Would you feel comfortable lending that dealer the equiv in cash (unsecured too).

To leave a car on SOR you need to be 100% sure if the dealer.

SOR does work and I have sold a few cars that way.

I've used Targa to sell a GT3 RS, a Cayman S Sport and also a E Class coupe. On each occasion I was dealt with in a professional way and importantly what I was told would happen regarding payment actually happened. I would use them again as I find that it takes the hassle out of selling a car, I don't have time for numerous people coming to view or test my car, some serious but lots not! Also when selling a car many people require financing options, most of the large finance houses won't finance a private sale car on HP. Using a dealership such as Targa with their numerous funding lines gives prospective buyers of my car a decent chance of obtaining the financing. If your car is on finance already the buyers lender will probably insist on making settlement to the lease company, this will negate much of the risk of the dealer not making payment. For sure using SOR costs but I guess you have to weigh up the pros and cons and decide is it worth it for your situation.

They offer very poor trade in offers compared to OPC.

They sold my CL63 AMG for me. They did everything as they said they would and were very professional. They tried to get rid of my F430 without much luck but when I asked for it back, they returned it without any quibble even though they had incurred marketing costs. I would recommend them without hesitation.

If you are considering a SOR for a 911 talk with Russ/Jonas/Rob at JZM. They are fussy (in a good way) about quality of stock they take, but an excellent service and great to deal with.

Not only that if a potential buyer for your car has a car to trade they can take care of that and flip it straight into trade, with all the contacts they have, therefore enabling the deal (which you couldn't do) and saving you a shed-load of hassle.

A great service, can't recommend them highly enough and got a great price for my car after fee was deducted, which I would never have achieved with OPC...and of course you didn't have to prep it, show it and deal with morons.

It's a thumbs up for me regarding Targa Florio- William went above and beyond to make the deal right for my 997 Turbo, which I collected today.

Just a thought.

What's the difference between SOR and the best cash offer?

Is it worth the risk?

Can also recommend them although my car was so good it would have probably sold itself in the daily mail section. But they are indeed serious, professional and only take good stock so people buy with confidence.

Targa Florio may contact you if you are advertising your car and offer to sell it for you on a sale or return basis at a fair price. If you take them up on this offer beware as they are unlikely to get the price for your car that they have promised to you. Then if and when they sell it, they will hang on to your money for as long as possible unless you are lucky enough to find out that they have sold it and demand that you are paid. They sound very professional but have behaved in a very dishonest manner with me.
