What does RS stand for? as in Carrera RS

Walking to the station this morning with my girlfriend when a beautiful blue 964 RS drives past, got a good look cause it was only doing 30..

girlfriend: what was that?
me: that was a beautiful 911 Carrera RS
girlfriend: what does RS stand for?
me: errrrr... rally sport, errr no that's ford
girlfriend: i thought you knew about porsches
me: errrr..

so now i NEED to know

I believe it stands for 'Renn Sport', which i think is German for 'Racing Sport'.

And i think Carrera is Spanish for 'race'

But i may stand corrected on this forum !!

RS does stand for Renn Sport but the Carrera name, IIRC, was derived from Porsche winning the Carrera Pan Americana race in South America.

Correct, but then Carrera does mean "race" in Spanish, I believe. Porsche also produced a design study "Panamericana" in the '90s ISTR - I have a rather nice 1/87 scale model of it as it happens :-)

Think I would have looked a bit stupid telling her it was race racing sport racing

However that does raise the question of that the second R stands for in RSR? anyone?

RS = Renn Sport

Rennen = Deutsch for 'to race'.

If prefer Ruptured Spleen, myself......

suspect it stands for "rampant sphincter relaxation" which describes the effect you get when you drive one as it should be driven...
