Me and my partner live on the suffolk/norfolk boarder and today we thought now the weather is better take our 981s out. On our way to norwich we had a white mini ford van with two blokes in it, got out started banging on my window calling me every name under the sun. I was actually the passanger my partner was driving and we had done nothing wrong frown. We have had a Lot of unwanted attention since we got the car in december and its making the ownership of something both me and my partner Love to bits. We were heading to norwich to do some shopping for my partner as it was her birthday a few weeks back. The day was spent in the police station making statements. We had a bright yellow m3 before this a dakar yellow one and people would comment andsay how much they liked the car, the porsche well people seem to want to run us off the road race or punch my head in :s. Also these people are local so now we have to constantly worry about seeing them again. I love the car so much but this stress isnt worth it frown

They'll always be scum and morons on the planet. Just do your best to rise above them and enjoy your life, only crossing paths with these types as little as often.

Don't worry about others thoughts.

I've never experienced or simply not noticed any negative attitude towards me in the car. Lucky I guess.

Envy is a wonderful feeling.

Had the same in each of my previous three Porsches, names, being spat at and had a cigarette thrown into the car when I had a cab with the hood down in London. Wouldn't mind if I had been driving like a ....... But that wasn't the case.

Nice.

Im sorry to hear this. What where they saying while banging on the windows? did you unintentionally cut them up or something?

People do think porche drivers are pricks. Perhaps it's the whole 80's loads'a'money / yuppie thing?

I have recently added a cherished plate to my 02 Boxster.

I am sure I have noticed a difference in attitude of other drivers. Maybe before they thought "oh its a ten year old Boxster" and that took away their issues, but it seems since the new plate is on I am getting more negative instances of their driving....

Swap it for a 993! I used to get a bit of this in my 997 C4S, particularly when visiting my parents who are near Liverpool but in the 993 nothing but smiles and waves. I even got a wave from the cops as I overtook a police Volvo on the A21 today with the roof down in the sunshine and my hat and scarf on!

Carry a small digital camera and when somebody comes up to you like that snap a pic of the person's face or snap a picture of their car or vehicle with a license plate number in frame so you have something just in case.

Practice whipping the camera and snapping pictures so you're good at it.

Also one time I had a guy cut me off he was on a cell phone I honked at him and he got all upset. He wanted me to pull over this was on a busy freeway but I motioned him to follow me and led him over to a local police station. When he finally realized this he was gone before I could even get out of car in the police station parking lot.

I'm mid Norfolk and never had a problem, although only recently into my 997.2 turbo.... And I did get pulled week 1 which certainly made me think that I'm more of a "target" than previously - even when I had the Ultima (which attracted huge attention, but always good). Did get approached by some guys when filling up yesterday but they were genuinley interested.

You may have just been unlucky - there are some strange folk about. Don't let it put you off!

I think hope you have just been unlucky and that the coming months / years will pass without incident. I've had cars like this for nearly 15 years and never had a problem really.

It must be putting you off, but I think its likely to pass.

I wonder if its a regional thing? I've only had a Porsche (996 C4S Cab) since last May, but in that time I've not had anything but positive reactions. Shortly after getting it, I was waiting behind another car at a junction when a bunch of (walking) "hoodies" pointed at me (I had the roof down) and crossed the road towards me - I was expecting the worst, but what I got was "really nice car mate" followed by "and ace beard" smile

Hi guys thanks for the replys. No cutting up no aggressive driving my partner was driving and to be honest she drives the car like a granny tongue out. The thing is im trying to get her to enjoy the car more and all this does is upsets her and knocks confidence. We cant change the car we have only had for 6 or so weeks. Erm well c*unt was used a lot so was the w*nker sigh literally for nothing. He then chased us to norwich after turning off then came back while i was on the phone to the police. I glt a picture of the number plate and the van so that will be used as evidence. Nothing will happen they will get away with it. Maybe its the fact we are younh im 26 and my partner is 28 who knows. Mindless fools

I think you're unlucky or perhaps some of the 'natives' of Norfolk were out that day.

As long as I've owned Porsches I've had the odd insult hurled at me (and been spat-at) but I've also had loads of 'thumbs-ups' mostly from young lads. It's encouraging they're probably not all going to grow into mindless smackheads.

Wish you well with the car.

When reading your initial post, I thought it might be down to your younger age which you did confirm in your last post. Being 20 years older than you, I do not get as much negative attention as I used to.
Having said that, I have noticed a change of attitude when driving the Porsche vs the Astons I had just before. People used to let me through traffic but not any more with the new car. But nothing as bad as France the country I am originally from. And that's a plus !

Whenever I drive in norfolk or anywhere I've had no problems but the norfolk slowsters sometimes flash at you to congratulate a superb overtaking move. Maybe drive the thing a bit harder. People might be frustrated to see a sports car being driven like a micra? That might be bringing out the moron in them. Don't forget they have to keep up if they want to have a go.

Its probably an age thing. Our dakar yellow m3 would get compliments but the boxster s gets this. I will stick with it for now, i dont want an m car again or an amg. The c63 is a monster but just doesnt have that same feel.

I wouldn't say it's an age thing - talking to a friend of mine whos dad owns a 996 of some flavour, he's told me of one or two stories where his 60+ year old father's been given abuse for driving a 911. I'm 22 and I've never experienced age-related road rage before, and I've had cars such as M3s and VXTs in the past. I hate to admit that the worst age-related prejudice I've had, apart from the insurers(!) is actually on PistonHeads.

(coincidentally, I experienced some road rage today for the first time in about 6 months - some bellend in front decided to just slam on the brakes and stop in the middle of a NSL road to drop off a passenger without indication. I honked as I went past, only to be met with a torrent of abuse out of the window. Surprisingly enough I realised the next double-white-line stretch was extremely pothole-ridden and couldn't proceed at anything more than 27mph to prevent damage to my car, of course.)

ETA - clarified for road rage in my second para

Neds can spot a victim a mile away, its nothing to do with the car.

Don't want to cause offence here, hope you can enjoy your car and make some changes that prevent you from being one of life's victims smile

I've had both bad and good in ten years of Porsches, a lot more good though such as people chatting at petrol stations etc. If people are positive so am I, I'll let their kids have sit in or whatever.

I never drive like a knob. I do 30 in 30 zones, don't rev the engine etc, etc but I've still experienced a couple of dheads. It pisses you off at the time, especially if your other half is in and gets a bit nervous, but I wouldn't give up cars because of it.

There was a great thread in the Ferrari section about abuse suffered and comments received by owners and there were some great retorts.
