Binding brakes
Discussion
Hi All
Used the car for the first time today in three weeks and the brakes had bound quite heavily. I've had this before and a bit of revs breaks them.
They obviously had a bit of rust of them as they made a grinding noise. The issue now is a juddering when breaking. I've tried a few high speed brakes and done a few miles but the issue persists. Is this a common thing? Any advice?
I have warranty but I cant imagine they would do anything?
Cheers chaps

If its really bad, you might want to consider getting the discs skimmed instead of replaced, especially if there is otherwise life left in them. I don't know how much this costs. It might help before parking up for any length of time is to apply light pressure to the brakes before stopping completely to take the water off them. Worth a thought anyway.
(Unfortunately) Normal......
If the corrosion has gone to any depth then the only way round the issue is to have the discs refaced or 'skimmed'; all OPC's were issued a special tool set that can remove material from the discs in increments of 0.1mm. Try a few VERY hard presses from around 60mph in an attempt to break through the corrosion it might work......
The pad surface can leave a 'shadow' on the discs when left as you describe; ime this shadow will even out eventually but only with use.......

Also try not to put the car away after cleaning without doing a couple of hard braking stops . This gets the water off the discs and stops the cast iron rusting quite as quickly. I had same problem today with rear discs rusting ( fronts were ok) i didnt use the brakes eneough after cleaning before garaging.
