Warranty on Gen 2 PDK???
Discussion
Hi.
I am going to pick up a Gen 2 PDK this weekend. It still has 1 month warranty to run on it.
I would normally renew it however as the DFI engines do not suffer from IMS and RNS issues do I really need one?
I would never run a GEN1 car without a warranty but I dont know about a Gen 2.

swings and roundabout as with any warranty.
Depends how you buy your cars, sell them, part ex them and how long you keep them
ALso if you have a fund as backup.
every one has to look at how they use the car.
some one doing 4k a year in a new model, I would say no just have a slush fund.
If your buying why not get a discount for a car out of warranty or get the seller to put on one inc in the price as part of the sale.
tough market atm for 40k cars imo.
remember the OPC warranty is 2 full years, so are you sure there are NO OPC cars for sale you like for only a bit more money ?
OPC will do great deals atm also.

At the risk of tempting fate, I've run my 7S.2 PDK sans warranty since the manufacturer's ran out. No issues of any significance so far (car at just over 31000 miles now).I am going to pick up a Gen 2 PDK this weekend. It still has 1 month warranty to run on it.

Mind you, the above does remind me of the guy who said his only ambition was to live forever. After I'd looked at him quizzically for a moment, he just said 'So far, so good'!
Warranty on the engine or other bits I wouldn't worry about. The only reason I keep the warranty on mine is for the PDK 'box as I can't afford £15K outright for a new one, and there are no specialists in the UK yet who could possibly help as problems are few and far between. That's clearly a good thing in terms of reliability and risk, but a bad thing if you happen to be in the odd percentage. Considering the 'box is a sealed unit too (although there is a company who races them in the US who has opened them up a couple of times, but their name escapes me now), there's not a whole lot you could do to fix it.
Horses for courses as always, but I'll keep mine renewed just in case.

My 7S.2 PDK has had a PDK software update done under warranty - would dread to think what that would have cost out of my own pocket.
I'll be renewing when it runs out. It has also covered a replacement battery (which I think would have been £300 otherwise) and I'm sure I'll find other stuff to use it for as well.

A: very very lucky to get a batteryand B: if you were out of warranty it would have been £85 and 4 years warranty on the battery.
but I guess you can talk yourself into it being a good deal lol.
to the OP who are you buying it from ? get them to put a warranty on it as part of the deal or knock 1k off it.

If the battery comes with a 4 year warranty and my car is 3 years old, seems fair that it's covered and B: if you were out of warranty it would have been £85 and 4 years warranty on the battery.

Anyway, the warranty came free with the car, so it's a good deal either way!

Your car being just 3 years old and needing a battery speaks volumes for the quality really, doesn't it? Well done getting the warranty to pay, although be aware that despite Porsche parts carrying a 24 month warranty, your new battery (by virtue of the fact you didn't pay for it) doesn't.

In a related note I've just had to buy a battery for a Lexus.....its first one at 10 years old and 170,000 miles.
