New GT3 Rumour re manual option
Discussion
The more I keep hearing this, the more the V12V is luring me away!
I think it would be a crying shame for Porsche to make the GT3 PDK only. I don't buy the "it's progress, deal with it" argument. The more the driver is involved in the driving process the more rewarding the experience is, simple.
For some of us it's not just about pure pace, but the driving experience. Might as well by a Datsun!

Does anyone agree with me in so much as the 991 GT3 SHOULD be pdk ?
You can't stop the march of time. The 911 can't risk being left behind by the GTr's and 458's of this world. As a flagship halo model it should be equipped with everything possible which can render it cutting edge and a performance industry benchmark. If you want an analogue experience then go and pick up a 96Gt3.

Drive a V12V before you come to that conclusion (if you haven't already). I was all set to buy one until my test drive, I thought it was cr@p.I think it would be a crying shame for Porsche to make the GT3 PDK only. I don't buy the "it's progress, deal with it" argument. I don't mind the fact it is PDK. It is the electrical crap that comes with it.You can't stop the march of time. The 911 can't risk being left behind by the GTr's and 458's of this world. GTRs and 458s are boring to drive. We don't need faster cars, we need more involving and lighter cars.

This new gen Gt3 is a digital car . Steering , diff , suspension , torque vectoring etc etc .
This makes me think that a digital gearbox is the best solution .
May well widen the appeal of the car. This makes me think that a digital gearbox is the best solution .
I'm in 2 minds about PDK. I get the part about manuals being involving and all that but i can't say in all honesty that I particularly find a modern Ferrari or a GTR boring in any way.
I'm sure the new GT3 will be as brilliant as they always are.

Maybe they should chuck all the tech they can into the GT3 and Gt2 but move the RS into a different direction, heavily differentiate it from the GT3 and GT2 .... keep it manual, lightweight, no satnav, more analogue, less nannies (oh wait, just like a real RS of yesteryear then !). It would be a car that would possibly be slower on lap times from the regular GT3 and GT2 so that would be a bit odd but at least it will satisfy the enthusiasts. I think this is thread that comes up quite a bit. I started something myself a few years back bemoaning the spec of the 3.8 RS and Steve R started a similar thread recently about a road legal cup car. Maybe its time that Porsche really do create this new purists RS and keep it totally different from the other GT cars ? They shoudl chuck a sequential in it whilst they're at it, throw out the funky engine mounts and make the front end bob once again and restore some of its rear-engineess.

DMC2 What was the problem with the V12V ? Everyone seems to love them. Have not driven one yet but have been watching them closely. TIA.wtdoom said:

I'm sure you're right, but unfortunately it just shows how brainwashed the market has become. For the average punter, digital=new, good; analogue=grandad's day, bad. This doesn't just apply to cars either. Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater...

i suspect so many GT3 track warriors (not the PH driving Gods) will realise that PDK will improve their driving skills - especially in these immensely powerful cars.Talk about throwing the baby out with the bathwater...

For the average driver, this is a positive. We will all have witnessed missed gears, making the car unstable, one hand on the steering wheel when two would be better etc etc. Agreed it takes away that sweet spot of balancing the gear change/throttle/turn in - so wonderful if you get it right.Gassing Station | Porsche General | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
