996 GT3 in classifieds.. Info?
Discussion
Hi,
Potentially looking to swap my Noble in for a GT3 and have seen this in the classifieds..
http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/p...
it's been advertised for a while and has just been 'bumped' up the list. The ad makes no mention of service history and states it has never been tracked but has some expensive extras suggesting otherwise. About two weeks ago I emailed the seller to this affect asking about any history and also how they knew it had never been tracked.. The reply I got was it's sold.. short and sweet but it never came off their website nor the classifieds and now it's been bumped up the list?
Has anyone any idea of the cars past, history, etc? I have absolutely no problems with a car that has been tracked as that's what they are intended for. However, sellers making claims they may not be able to substantiate worries me as to what else may not be quite right if you get my meaning?!
Also, if the car has no service history as might be the case is it best avoided or price dependant?
Thanks all..

I'm pretty sure it is the same car that a friend came close to buying about 18mts ago. On that car there were some RR2's found during a PPI at OPC Belfast. A leakdown test was performed and the results sent to Porsche for a decision on whether the would warrant or not. It took so long for the decision to come through that we found another car in the meantime. Porsche said they would cover put a warranty on it in the end.
I think this is an old advert for the same car at Gmund. Maybe they can tell you what they know. http://www.gmundcars.com/cars/665/996gt3clubsportm...

I have to say when an advert says a car has never seen a track I do take it with a huge pinch of salt.
I know for a fact that potential buyers of my car have been told it has never been tracked. Really?
It does like like a lovely car however, tracked or not!
When you own one its pretty hard to resist the temptation not to take it on a track and drive it nearer to what it was intended for.when buying you just have to assume it has been tracked untill proven otherwise. Salesmen dont ever know the full history of any car.I know for a fact that potential buyers of my car have been told it has never been tracked. Really?

Does look nice. All those track options(even full cage) and never seen a track.
Shame.
Ok, so like Old Trout says take it with a pinch of salt, but as for the track options...Shame.
The full cage - All CS's have them and although not best to run with the front section on the road, I'd expect it to be present and correct at purchase time.
The suspension - Suspension wears out and most GT3 owners are fastidious hence replace it with something better than OEM.
Brakes - Same again really.
Diff - Always should be rebuilt with Cup ramps. No adverse effects on road but better on track.
So it may have been tracked, it may not but as long as it's been maintained it's pretty irrelevant given that most GT3s will have been on a track at some point.

Sounds like it's gone anyway.
OP - I'd always go for the Clubsport anyway, rarer, more of an occasion to it and some nice track goodies should you wish to track it. Unless rear access is essential (there are no rear seats anyway), Clubbie all the way!

The way the classifieds work is that you can pull an advert, then relist it. the newest cars go to the top of the first page. No wants their car languishing down on the last page as it looks like it's sat around for ages, which to be fair some GT3s do. Especially MK2 silver ones.
